Based on what we've seen so far, and with a little over half a season left, what do you feel is the most pressing need the Sox have that could make them even better down the stretch?

Another quality starter

Better relief pitching

A quality defensive player

A quality offensive player

Nothing leave 'em alone!

Bring back Falstaff! :gulp: GO SOX!

*scratches head* I thought this was a poll? :)

Anyways, if anything added, I would like to see maybe another addition to the bull pen, long reliefe just in case. a little extra depth can't hurt. I don't know where it will come from, but that's what I'd want :)

I am fine with our bullpen.

I'd like to add a quality utility infielder like a Tony Graffanino-type.

No major needs. The only thing I think they could use is a solid pinch hitter on the bench. Timo, Harris, Ozuna and Widger I think have 3 total pinch hits between them. Hopefully Ross Gload gets healthy soon and that problem should be solved, as well as the problem of having a backup 1b to give Pauly a rest once and awhile.

I think the rest of the team is fine

look in whats the score or in a game thread after a loss and you'll see this is no laughing matter.

or look at a jeremyb or dadawg post and you'll see this is actually an infuriating matter.

Since i don't see how we could possibly miss the post-season,i would go with another solid starter.
'el duque" is the kind of guy that can really step it up in the playoffs but i wonder if he has that much left in the tank.

After his asinine comments (http://www.whitesoxinteractive.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=52230) about Royce Clayton, I think the #1 move they can make is to get rid of Paul Konerko.....

Maybe it's time to think about a trade for Todd Helton (and cash) or Aubrey Huff, with Konerko going to the Rockies or Rays along with a package of prospects.

Or, maybe he would like to play with Arizona so he can play with Royce Clayton.

The 2005 White Sox most pressing need?

Two things: a pennant saying "A.L. Champions, 2005"
a ring saying "World Series Champions, 2005"

That'll do in my book.

One more big, consistent bat. And if it replaces GIDPK's bat, all the better.

With El Duques possible/probable health concerns the sox should look for a long reliever who is also capable of being a spot starter.

Didn't Scott Schoeneweis leave this past off-season?

I say relief pitching. Can't have enough bridge men to carry out the 'W'.

Another starter would be a waste. In the playoffs teams generally start only 3 or 4 pitchers, so in my opinion, getting another would only be trading away something we might want in the future. El Duque and Contreras have proven that they can get the job done. Contreras' one bad start doesn't mean we need someone to fill his spot (see his stats - he's allowed 1 run in 6 of his 13 starts for '05). El Duque is a big game pitcher and he'll be very useful in August vs. the Yankees, Red Sox, and Twins, and in September when the race is on.

That's a really good point. 5th starters in the regular season serve as bullpen pitchers in the postseason. It's like acquiring another bullpen arm for the playoffs.

For that reason and because our pitching has been better than our hitting, our most pressing need is for more offense. The worst hitter on the team is Crede, so it makes the most sense to upgrade at third.
