Looks like the Twins are taking up for A.J. They've shelled Tomko to the tune of 4 runs in a half inning.

Actually, Tomko is probably tanking the game in order to screw AJ and his new team over.

BTW, I love hearing the Giants announcers call a game. It's the guys that do MVP Baseball for PS2 and X Box. It's kinda weird hearing them. It sounds like someone's playing a game in your living room.

Surprisingly, there's been no hype of the fact that this is a replay of the 1933 and 1924 World Series. The 1924 World Series where the Senators (now Twins) beat the Giants in seven games is one of the three best ever (along with 1991 and 2001).

With no Sox game we might as well have a Twinkie-Giant thread. Bizarre game up to now. The Twins scored 4 in the 1st and now the Giants are up 6-4.

It's because there are a lot of other, more recent rematches which involve teams that are still in the same cities that they were in at the time of the World Series.

Nathan is clearly not the same pitcher as last year. He just doesn't have the same dominance that he did in 2004, which might have been expected a bit. Rincon is near where he was, though, and Jesse Crain has been unhittable, but Nathan has just been good, not awesome.

I don't think anyone expected him to be that good. He had a bit of a flukey year last year in that he posted Rivera/Gagne-like numbers. But I don't think anyone expected that he would do that again this year. He's still a hell of a pitcher and shouldn't really be judged based on comparisons to last years numbers.

So the Twins lost 2 of 3 at home to the Giants while the Sox were losing 2 of 3 to the Diamondbacks.

I checked the score before leaving work, and it was tied after 8 with Nathan coming in. Coming home to that big black 7 was a pleasant surprise. Wednesday I left work with the Sox losing 6-2 and came home to a big black 9 in the Sox inning column, only because ESPN initially didn't give the Sox credit for all of their runs.

I should leave work more often.

This has been quite the turn of events! At one point during yesterday's game, the Sox were down 5 and the Twins had the tying run on 2nd base in their game after being down 5-0 earlier. The Sox came back, the Twins couldnt put any more runs on the board and the lead, which looked to be on the verge of shrinking to 3, or at least holding at 4, expanded to 5 games. Now with the Twins bullpen blowing the 1-run lead and allowing the game to be blown wide open, the lead is back to 5.5 games, as the Twins also drop 2 of three at home to their opponent. The thing is, though, that our opponent was better while they dropped 2 of three to a less than respectable team.

Definitely. When the Twins rally for a win, Lip and the FOLIP are the first one shere to tell us that the Twins aren't lucky. Funny, that group hasn't made it into this thread to tell us just how good they are.

Give it a rest, people. This is a new year, and the Twins aren't as good as they've been. This has been a growing trend throughout the season. The Sox play a better team and don't lose ground.

Not only does Minnesota blow a 4-0 lead, but in the process, also burned its key relievers save Romero.

The lesser three teams in the AL Central have won a combined 14 straight games! Even the abysmal Royals (what the crap has gotten into them?) have won 5 in a row, including a three-game sweep of the incoming Dodgers. I hate when teams play the Sox while on a losing streak - what's the likelihood of LA's skid continuing for a few more games?

I hope this isn't perceived as a Dark Cloud post (I'm sure others scoreboard-watch as I do); it's just the laws of probability. Here's to a 6-game losing streak for the LA Dodgers!

Why doesn't Gardenhire use Jesse Crain as his 8th inning pitcher? Crain has been unhittable this year. Rincon hasn't been as tough and Romero is a bit inconsistent.

Ma-gaga,
Why doesn't Gardenhire use Jesse Crain as his 8th inning pitcher? Crain has been unhittable this year. Rincon hasn't been as tough and Romero is a bit inconsistent.

Short Answer: He's still pretty green. Gardy doesn't trust his rookie pitchers as much as guys that have been there. That and he has to save his bullpen for the next three to four months.

Long Answer: The Twins have a little more structured bullpen than the W.Sox. Instead of playing the lefty-righty matchup game, Gardy likes to stick his guys in "roles". Nathan is the "closer". Rincon is the 8th inning guy. Mullholland is the lefty long reliever, Guerrer is the righty long reliever. Crain and Romero are tweeners. They can be used for matchups, or for an inning or two of relief.

Romero started out as the 7th inning guy, but he's struggled, loading up the bases, and Crain has BAILED him out. So, those two may be switched around. However, Gardy likes to let his struggling relievers "pitch" out of their funks. He simply can't put Crain out there 120 games, he needs to get some innings from his lower level relievers.

I think there's good/bad with either a tiered bullpen like the Twins or a situational bullpen like the W.Sox. I get pissed off at Gardy sticking to his "roles" to a fault. However, it works more times than it doesn't. :gulp:
