It takes a pretty special pitcher to make the majors with one year of minor league baseball under his belt.

Yeah, if there is an opening in the rotation, it would probably be McCarthy's job to lose.

Does he make the staff in 06?

I cant foresee any situation where he would rise through the minors that fast.

In a word: no. I don't know the specs but I think that we have have all 5 of our starters for at least another year after this one. They could be traded or whatever, but if this rotation produces like it has been for the rest of the season, there is a good possibility that all 5 will be back next year. And I am not even going to include McCarthy in the rotation but he would be another roadblock for Broadway. It is way to early to see whether or not Broadway will be any good. Has he even pitched for W-S yet?

2007 would be the earliest, IMO. Even that would take a pretty great minor league track record. He's going to be treated with caution in High-A, AA next year at the earliest, IMO.

With a full-season of AA, if he's lights out, sure, he could be in the 2007 picture...

Very hypothetical at this point.

The MLB draft is so much more of a crapshoot compared to the NBA or NFL. Can anyone say Jon Rauch?

Two to three year's development, barring injury. Then once he's made the show, he will still have to learn how to pitch at the major league level. Some guys never figure it out.

I wish him good luck. We Sox fans like good pitching...
