When the Reds last came to Fenway Park in October 1975, Carlton Fisk's 12th-inning homer off the left-field foul pole gave Boston a 7-6 win in Game 6, with Fisk memorably jumping, trying to wave the ball fair. But the Reds rebounded to win Game 7 at Fenway by a 4-3 score.

During a pregame ceremony, the left-field foul pole was named the Fisk Pole in honor of the Hall of Famer, who was in attendance. Fisk threw out the ceremonial first pitch to his former batterymate, Luis Tiant.

"I don't know if embarrassed is the right word. But you wonder whether you deserve it," Fisk said. "Why isn't it the Ted Williams Pole, or Yaz, or all the other great players?"

The right-field foul pole already is known as the Pesky Pole, named after former Boston infielder Johnny Pesky, and Ramirez homered near there in the five-run sixth inning.
