Hello to all Sox fans! It has been a while for me but it is great to back here and touring my favorite site. Anyway..... I think we have a problem that most teams would love to have. I really hope that the situation with Thomas and Everett, as far as getting rid of one of them is concerned, is over and done. We need both of these guys. Everett I do think is the odd man out should something happen just because Frank has been here so long and still seems to be a fan favorite. We can ill afford to lose him. He is a switch hitter and a good RBI man. Plus he plays his butt off and I love his desire and approach to the game. Plus, there is no guarantee Thomas will make it through the season healthy and I would hate to lose Everett and then have Thomas go down. I won't go into what Thomas adds to this team as all of us have been priveleged to watch his entire career with the Sox. But making a move could hurt us down the road and I do believe that there is a chemistry with this team that any change of that magnitude might hurt. I guess what i am saying is, if it ain't broke, don't try to fix it. What do you guys think? Anyway, its great to be back! Go Sox!:sahaf "Please, ignore the exploding scoreboard behind me. And the Sox record? Forget it! The Cubs are still my team."

I think that both should be kept. Once the AL games resume, Frank should be the everyday starter at DH. In the event that Frank needs a day off, or one of the outfielders needs to rest, then Everett can start on those days. It's unfortunate that there isn't room for both players in the starting lineup, but this seems to be the only fair solution. The fact remains that Frank Thomas is a better hitter than Carl Everett, and so he should start. Keep in mind that Everett chose to stay with the White Sox, in spite of the fact that he knew Frank would be back eventually. He had to know that this would happen sooner or later.

Again, I empathize with Ozzie and with both players. This is difficult situation to resolve, but, as I said above, I think keeping both is the best option. There is no guarantee that Thomas will remain healthy for the remainder of the season, so Everett should be kept. However, Frank should start, as he is this team's best hitter. It has been my experience that keeping the best offensive player in the lineup is absolutely essential to the overall success of the team.

obviously we are not going to get rid of thomas bc one day his picture will be located on the left field fence. as for everett, i think hes too productive to be let go. hes on a hot streak right now and is second in rbi amongst dh's behind the mighty ortiz. KEEP EM BOTH KW!

I honestly think they should keep both and trade Timo Perez, giving Carl Everett the backup DH/Outfield job. Both are just too valuable to the team to get rid of.

I agree. If we trade Everett, then our bench would look pretty dismal. Widger, Ozuna, Harris, and Timo are all OK bench guys, but having Carl here is a huge asset. Since it looks like Gload may not be coming up for a while, I do not want to imagine seeing Timo Perez being brought in to pinch hit in a crunch situation with Everett being gone.

Both! Look at recent history: Everett has spent time on the DL almost every year for the last 5, likewise with Thomas (likewise with Jermaine Dye...in which case we'd need Carl somewhere in the OF...probably LF with Pods and Aaron moving over). A long season with 3 aging players...don't want to jinx it...but it's very likely someone will go down sometime this year. We don't want to end up needing Joe Brochard!

I think we need to keep both of them, with Frank getting a majority of the playing time. Frank's presence just changes the game more than Carl's does, especially his patience at the plate. I also doubt there will be any ego problems as both players are (possible) free agents after the season and they're not exactly spring chickens. This may be their last shot at the postseason and the World Series, not to mention getting rid of their clubhouse cancer images.

Carl will continue to be an invaluable asset in interleague games, and in late innings (i.e. in tight games). And he can sneak in to the outfield from time to time. I say keep 'm. If KW's looking to deal, I can see why he might be considering Carl. The WS have only dealth him, what, three times before?

What are the possibilities for Carl Everett to get some practice (pregame) and eventually be a bonafied MLB 3rd baseman? If he could handle it at all, it would be a way to have all the scarey bats in the lineup , and then bring in Crede late in the game as defensive specialist to preserve the lead. Has Evvie played 3rd anytime in his career, even high school or little league?

The possibilities are slim and none. He can barely play the outfiled, let alone third. Bringing in Crede in the 8th wouldn't prevent the damage done for the first seven innings.

Well there is a possibility. But I, for one, hope it never happens. With all the 3B (i.e. Randa, Feliz) trade ideas, the reason most don't like them is the fact that they would weaken our defense. I can't even imagine Carl at 3rd. He would be a pretty horrible fielder no matter how much he practiced. I would rather trade for Randa and I don't even want to do that either.

I don't like this one at all guys. I understand the need for some offensive production from our 3rd baseman but putting Everett there only makes us a weaker team. I agree with an improvement through a trade for Randa or Chavez but something from within the existing team does not seem feasible, especially with Everett. Again, bite the bullet and hold on to both Thomas and Carl. It is a problem a lot of teams would like to have and I for one think we will need both of them down the stretch.
