A preemptive post game thread, eh?

You will feel pretty foolish if the Rockies put together a 12 run 9th.

Wow, this win feels amazing. I am going to have a smile on my face for at least two days non-stop. I hope the Rockies move to the AL soon.

Question: What happens when you put the Big Hurt in Coors Field?
Answer:430 to straight away center.

i don't mean to be making excuses for Shingo however the 2nd and 3rd pitches of the at bat to Closer were strikes. Shingo was barely missing with those pitches. Stuff like that HR happens when you think that you have to pitch it right over the plate to get a strike. Especially in Coors. It's not where the Catcher catches it but where it crosses the plate and those crossed the plate as strikes.

A lot happened in tonight's game. Umpire getting hit on a ball thrown by the ROX right fielder. Politte hitting a single and getting at least one RBI. Politte tagging from second to third. Dye getting two ball thrown at his head in one at bat from Matt Anderson (neither of them hitting him). Rockies playing bad defense. Crede and Thomas back-to-back pinch hit home runs. Ozuna getting at least three hits. Everett giving the Sox the lead twice in this game. Shingo giving up another home run in one inning of work. El Duque being too agressive on the bases today. Just go station-to-station my man. He had a hit and some nice swings. He retired at least 10 in a row at one point. A Sox fan in attendance with a broom. An elderly Sox fan who was knitting. And more that I can't think of right now.

Wow. Ozuna's miscues in the first couple innings didn't affect the outcome of the game and El Duque settled down nicely. Then the offense just completely came alive. Bye-bye 5-run inning barrier.

How about Pods with one of the best "days off" ever...1-for-1 and 2 runs scored. If the score had been closer, he could have picked up a couple SB's as well (doubt he's complaining) :D:

Unfortunately the twinks look like they'll win again, but they'll eventually lose.

My favorite part was watching the game in a group of people and laughing to myself as Thomas came in to pinch hit, while Crede just hit a HR.

Me:"HAHAHAHA! We're mean!"
Them: "Huh?"
Me: "We're pinch hitting Frank Thomas up by 10 runs. He's going to hit a HR, hahahaha. Ope, you can put it on the board YEEEESS!"

Hahaha. That was both mean, and great. I realize he was pinch hitting for Vizcaino, but its just funny seeing THE Frank Thomas come in to pinch hit in an NL game, when up by so many runs. Great to see "the big inning" finally, and the first 10 run game I can remember since last year. Remember how we had like 11 at this point last season? I'm much more excited this year than I was last year at this point.

If they stay healthy, why not think World Series? This team has everything needed for a deep post-season run - pitching, defense, bullpen (except Shingo), and timely hitting. Why am I even making a case? I expect champaign showers in late October for the White Sox!

I hope the first few innings of this game made you realize how essential good defense is at 3rd.

The only Ozuna mistake I blame him for was running on a 2-2 count that he thought was 3-2. His defensive mistakes were not plays that Crede makes either. The first mistake was made when Ozuna ran in on a ball and threw low to Konerko's right side. That throw wasn't that far off, but I can't blame Konerko because thrown balls low and to your right are the most difficult to field. We all know how bad Crede is on coming in on softly hit balls, so I doubt Crede makes that out.

Ozuna's second defensive mistake was more the result of Sullivan's speed that beat out Ozuna's throw. Ozuna made a nice diving stop to his right, but couldn't find the handle right away and Sullivan beat out his throw. Had it been any other ROX player running, I think Ozuna's throw gets him.

7 Wins for El Duque. Could we see yet another Sox starter in the All-Star game? (not that any are a lock, but so far 3 have numbers worthy)

Id rather he not be at the all star game, rest his old arm

Hawk's "butcher boy" reference to Politte was due to Politte's act of faking a bunt and taking a chopping swing at the pitch. That's what happened when Politte got the base hit.

It's just so WSI. Voice your opinions all you want. Reading posts like these aren't burning my eyes or anything. I just honestly found it kind of amusing hence the SNL reference. Why wouldn't you be impressed by a win? We're 21 games over .500 and the games against good teams don't mean anything more than wins against bad teams... they're both wins. For the third night in a row, Sox pitching struck out 10 or more batters. Mercy!

What a great win by the Sox. They showed up and got the job done on the road against an inferior opponent and completed the sweep. Can't ask for anything more than that!

ozuna has a few defensive miscues but makes it up with his big day at the plate, everett starts in left and continues to roll, widger played well and got the job done when he needed to...hopefully this puts an end to all that "sunday lineup" nonsense. GO SOX!

Random Thoughts on today's game:

I may sound like a broken record, but again, Jermaine Dye is starting to really produce with some big RBIs. It's a beautiful thing to see. THIS is the guy I remember from Oakland and KC.

Has that moonshot that Frank Thomas hit landed yet? #438 in his steroid free career.

Who knew Cliff Polite was a 5 Tool Player? And to think, all this time he was rotting in the Sox bullpen!

Someone tell me again, how did the "contending" Cubs lose 2 out of 3 to this Rockies team when they were at the Urinal? I know, I know, "hey dude, what's the score?"

What a bummer, Sox left 17 men on. :(:

Actually, that is the cumulative stat for the players. Most of those men were left on by more than one person. The actual number is 6. 22 hits... 6 left on base... generally you are going to win those types of games. :D:

The stat from the box score that really stood out at me though was...

Runners left in scoring position, 2 out: C Widger 1

Now I admit that I have no idea how many players batted with 2 outs and runners in scoring position, but when you only leave one of them stranded, you are doing something right...

Oh and...

Today, El Duque was the only player to bat who didn't score a run...:o:

That's unbelievable. Any other team would get all the love in the world from ESPN. At least the Sox play twice on ESPN, at home, in the next 2 weeks, and we have upcoming games against the Dodgers and Cubs, so they'll be forced to cover us. Not that I care what ESPN does, but it'll be nice to see more than 30 seconds of highlights each night.

Great game last night. What a good use of good money for the whole series.

Everybody in the stadium wasn't necessarily happy just for Joe that he hit the homer, we were also happy that it was going to send Frank to the plate. Everyone in that stadium wanted to see him bat. How loud were we on tv after frank's homer? I know my section was awesome loud. We gave the team a long standing ovation at the end, thanking them for the great series, great game, and wishing luck in their post-season road.

Cliff politte's hit was great, what a move. I love the sweeps.

There at the beginning i was pretty sure the pablo ozuna move would cost us the game. Two caught stealings a big error on the bunt and not being able to get the ball out of his glove.

Sxymofo; Oh yea you guys were loud on the tube. I was so impressed with the sox fans in denver all week. It was really cool to see that crowd totally dominated by sox fans by the end. And you got the payoff with the late homers by Joe and Hurt.

As for ozuna defense, I cannot be the only one cursing him early in that game. Joe is an outstanding defensive player and would have made a better throw on the first play tho he may not have made the out at least he would not have given up two runs in the end. And he would have made the second play routinely. Crede has good hands and a very good accurate arm. defense is our game this year and he has to play third and juan ss to key that.

Obviously Pablo will need to spell both occasionally but Joe and juan are the fixtures. And they will both heat up at the plate in the second half like last year.

My big concern is the bullpen and Damaso 's arm injury.

Why does everyone say that they don't care about the media's lack of coverage, but then they complain about it !!!

Make up your mind !

As for me, I think it is hilarious!! As the season goes on and the Sox continue to dominate, the bandwagon jumpers will slowly climb on board. I will just continue to quietly enjoy the season and know deep down what a bunch of idiots and fakes the media really are.

By the way, it appears that Sergio Mitre is now the next Cy Young.

I think some folks are overestimating Crede's defensive abilities a bit. He's not Robin Ventura -- the only 3B in recent memory who routinely made the 2 plays that Ozuna missed. Besides, I can think of far worse infractions than briefly double-clutching after a diving stop of a rocket down the 3B line or a barehand throw that went within 4 feet of a 1B bag occupied by a matador. IMHO, the 2 CS were far more aggravating, especially coming from a player who previously was 4-5 in SB attempts. Then again, I feel the same way when Pods gets CS twice in a game. Then I grab a beer and remind myself that we still have the best recrod in baseball.

Who's whining? Some of us get annoyed that we pay for a sports channel and we don't even get the simple benefit of mediocre coverage when we are leading the league. Thats not whining... its complaining, which is a long standing tradition in White Sox fandom.

Furthermore, some of us don't live in the Chicago area and can't actually watch the game (I can because I shelled out big bucks for Gameday in addition to my monthly big bucks for cable, but not every non-Chicagoan is so lucky).

And finally, some of us have to wake up really early the next morning and can't stay up that late. And before anyone says it, I know some of you stayed up late, took a five minute nap and then went back to your job at US Steel bending girders with your bare hands. Sure it can be done, but shouldn't be expected to be done. Thats just silly.
