Read this from their website:
"Wednesday's loss dropped Chicago's record to 17-10 vs. opponents with winning records."
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/clubhouse?team=chw

They made it sound like that's bad. Heck, that's almost .600. Actually, that's good. How many other teams do that, I bet you not too many. Oh well, just venting a little.

Get used to it. We're gonna be dissed until we win the WS so we might as well just focus on that.

Good point, Fred.

And what a stupid stat: anybody can beat anybody--who cares what the opponents' records are?

Case study: KC just swept the Yankees.

So I ran the numbers. This is humerous stuff! Nothing like media bias!
The record of all teams with winning records against the other teams with winning records.

Team Record WinPCT
CWS 17 - 10 .630
Bal 18 - 12 .600
TEX 15 - 12 .555
LAA 12 - 10 .545
Bos 15 - 16 .483
Min 11 - 12 .478
TOR 16 - 19 .457
NYY 12 - 17 .414

Ari 15 - 12 .555
Atl 24 - 14 .631
ChC 13 - 11 .542
Fla 15 - 17 .468
LAD 11 - 16 .297
NYM 19 - 17 .527
Phi 15 - 18 .454
SD 16 - 12 .571
StL 14 - 13 .518
Was 22 - 19 .536

what are they gonna complain about next, that we have an 18-4 record in our division? how pitiful!

Yup, the more the SOX win, the more you'll see junk like this being pumped out there. Meanwhile, the cubs are starting to get a lot of press for their historic 7 game winning streak. My biggest ESPN complaint? Has anyone noticed lately how ESPN radio and tv are on a daily basis, continue to run "heres Ron Santo with the call" and the hosts just laugh and think how cute and fun it is to hear Santo saying "OHhhhhhh " or "All rite!" "uhhhhhhhhhhhh". I like how they are legitimizing how UNPROFESSIONAL he is, so as to deflect any well-deserved criticism.

this means that minnesota has been beating up on sub par teams. You never hear a word about that. Only how great they are.

I know one team that is above .500 that minnesota has not had their way with this year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But then again don't forget they have had some injuries.......

we never have to deal with injuries

I think you guys are reading WAY too much into a single sentence. The Sox lost their last game against an opponent with a winning record, so it did drop their record to 17 - 10 against such opponents. I just don't see the anti-Sox bias in that sentence. It was just a very concise way to state the Sox record against teams with winning records.

:?: What should they have said?

OF Scott Podsednik is stole his major league-leading 27th base Wednesday. He is on pace to steal 81 bases this season, which would break Rudy Law's club record of 77, set in 1983. ... The White Sox have been in first place all 58 days this season, surpassing their total from 2004 (53). ... Wednesday's loss dropped Chicago's record to 17-10 vs. opponents with winning records. ... Chicago starters have walked 19 batters over the last 14 games. ... The White Sox are 17-7 at home this season, the best home mark in the American League. They are 637-484 in 15 seasons at U.S. Cellular Field, which is the second-best record in the AL during that time span. New York is 685-440 at Yankee Stadium. ... Chicago has recorded an extra-base hit in a season-high 26 straight games.

I know this is nitpicking a little, but if you read that whole paragraph. On all the other sentences, they follow them with itís the best this or that except for these two sentences:
ďWednesday's loss dropped Chicago's record to 17-10 vs. opponents with winning records. ... Chicago starters have walked 19 batters over the last 14 games.Ē which they did not follow up.

So when I read it, I assume thatís a bad thing.

Do you see my point?

They could have added the words "which is the best in the AL". or even "which is second-best in all of baseball".

I donít normally get this sensitive, I think it comes come from reading too many WS articles. I try and donít read anything when they loose and only when they win to minimize my disappointed feelings.

I guess I need to take a AAA class for being hooked on the WS.

They could have added the words "which is the best in the AL". or even "which is second-best in all of baseball". It's a ****ing stat blurb that they spend 10 seconds on and that the original poster now noticed was 80% complimentary. It's not an article by a journalist. Criminy:rolleyes:

It beats the hell out of YINZ!

Someone said that to me tonight for the first time (the first real time, where someone wasn't joking) while I was waiting for a bus tonight after the Bucs-Braves game. Took me about 15 seconds to figure out what the hell he had said.

Ooops...off topic...sorry.
