The top-seeded Fighting Illini fell (http://fightingillini.collegesports.com/sports/m-basebl/recaps/052705aac.html) to No. 2-seeded Purdue 4-3 yesterday in Champaign. It was an elimination game of the double elimination Big Ten Tournament. The Illini, which had stumbled down the stretch and backed their way into the No. 1 seed, lost the opening game to Minnesota, the six seed.
Illinois hopes to receive an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.

No bid for the Illini. Michigan had a better schedule and resume and the Illini finishing 1-10 down the stretch was the nail in the coffin. UIC made it, and from the Big Ten, tOSU (won the tourney) and Michigan both are in.
