View Full Version : Athens vs Sparta resumes

It has been 6 long weeks since Boston and New York have met in baseball but they play again this weekend

FRI 7 PM ESPN
SAT 1 PM FOX (72% of US)
SUN 7 PM ESPN

As usual the papers in both cities are going nuts.

Why do I think the rest of the country is rooting for Baltimore to win the East and the Twins the Wild Card? and as a story below reaffirms what I have been saying, one of these teams maybe both could be in for a long winter.

The hype is over the top yet again

So much talk about a pair of teams in 2nd and 4th place.

You'd think they'd be all over the TRUE game of the night.

I almost used him. I'm getting sick of the New York-Boston hype. How great would it be if both teams missed the playoffs this season?

Tell the truth

Would't you rather beat one or both of them in October than say Baltimore or Anaheim?

Not really, because then all we would hear is how the Red Sox or Yankees lost the series instead of how the White Sox won it.

Lord knows that nobody would be interested in watching two first place teams from cities that are over 1,000 miles from the wide-open Atlantic Ocean playing each other.

BTW, I thought Saturday's Real Sox/Rangers' game is on FOX. Is that the "minor" Fox game that 28% of the country gets "stuck" watching?

The truth: We want to beat a good baseball team in October. Three of them, in fact.

Nope. I don't care who the Sox have to beat to win the championship. A World Series victory is worth the same amount regardless of who it comes against. I don't think the Angels care that they didn't get to face the Braves back in 2002.

Sorry, Add me to the list of people hoping they both miss the playoffs this year (and every year going forward for that matter, but that's not realistic). As long as the Sox win, I don't really care who they beat come Oct.

I liked the quote in the Shaugnessy article about Curt calling WEEI to tell everyone in the world how to do their job. Classic!!

If the BoSox had Billy Koch or Mike Jackson, either one of them would have lost the game after only three batters in the 9th.

Carl Pavano (five runs, 11 hits) was shelled, the hitters went limp and all the excitement over Friday's emotional victory was drained in an embarrassing 17-1 loss to the Red Sox, who - quite literally - smacked the Yankees all over the Stadium, stroking a staggering 27 hits in front of 55,315 increasingly angry spectators.
