As most of you know A.J, Buehrle and Garland appear on the cover of Sports Weekly. (And I must say it looks pretty good up on my shelf with my other memorbillia) but when will the Sox get on ESPN or SI? If they continue to do what they are doing I'd have to think it would be soon.

If they win the World Series, they might get a corner photo on SI.

I don't want the Sox to be on the cover of ESPN or SI. Lets hope the Sox continue playing beneath the radar. Besides, the SI cover is cursed, and curses are for cubs.

I always say the same thing, we don't need no stinkin SI curse, or.. should I say, excuse. :)

I think the last Sox item on the cover of SI was in the Spring of 2000 (story about Frank).

aren't cover shots on SI bad luck?

There have been a number of cover shots in S.I. regarding the Sox.

Let's see if memory still serves me.

Billy Pierce in 1958 (?), Fox and Aparicio 'Magic Up The Middle...' August 59, the White Sox team photo, October 1959, the 'exploding' scoreboard 1960, Aparicio sliding 1962, the Orioles / Sox important series August 64, the Sox in NYC with Ken Berry running 1967, Dick Allen in dugout 1972, Wilbur Wood 1973, Bill Melton 1973, Harry Chappas 1976 (?), Greg Luzinski 1981, Frank Thomas (shared with Griffey) 1994 and Thomas in 2000.

The "SI Cover Curse" is a lot of hooey. Often, people or teams make the cover when they hit their peak, the decsent starts shortly thereafter. If there was a "curse" to be on the cover, then Michael Jordan would have had the most below average, unspectacular careers ever.

I would love the national attention to our guys. They deserve it.
Our Sox will make it when they change their name to "Red."

if you pick up sports weekly regularly, you'll notice the Sox or Cubs are on the cover about 1-2 a month. Sports Weekly sells more copies by having regional covers and varying the placement of stories. Similar SW out west will probably have an Angels or Dodgers feature story on the cover

Ok, I've come to the conclusion that Fenway either has no job or does a great job of delegating, he has wayyyyyyyy too much time on his hands!

I picked one up a couple of weeks ago with Scotty Pods on the cover, the article was all about how the league is stealing bases again and he wasn't the centerpiece of the article, he had to split time with Juan Pierre and Carl Crawford and a couple of other guys I can't remember right now.

Wow, that's kind of cool...you can purchase those covers off the SI website. I wonder what kind of condition they come in. I suppose they are probably reprints. At least you don't get a mailing label on them.

Thanks for the pictoral history, fenway.

I wouldn't mind seeing a 2005 version of this one:

with different results, of course.
