Check out this story from the Trib. I guess the Cubs requested to have minor league instructor Vince Coleman sit in on the bench for the series and KW denied the request. Coleman got pissed at KW.
I can't see what reason the Cubs would think that the Sox would allow them to have extra help in beating them.
Nice move KW. White Sox first.

Not reading the article here, but I sure that he would have helped in some way...mostly by timing our speedsters and stopping us from running.

Just a guess, good job KW!

Nothing like having friends who can't figure out the meaning of 'trying to win'... I thought Coleman played the game.

A side note - Did Kenny move from Plainfield to Arizona?

The Cubs need to stop whining about everything and focus on playing the games. I'm getting tired of opposing teams bitch and complain when the Sox beat them, especially because many of these same teams were laughing at the Sox last season when they didn't have Frank and Maggs in the lineup.

Nobody ever accused Coleman of having a brain. Didn't he throw a firecracker out of a team bus when he was playing for the Mets and injure a kid? I think he also got run over by an automatic tarp at St. Louis and missed part or all of a post season once.

Crybaby like him will fit in well with the Cubs.

Cubs bench coach Dick Pole and others watched in disbelief.

His name speaks for it self.

Yes, both of those incidents involved Coleman. The guy isn't exactly the sharpest knife in the drawer.

KW had every right to do what he did. I'm sure the Cubs would've done the exact same thing had vince coleman been with the Sox.

Only the media wouldn't have made a big deal out of it. As far they're concerned, everything is okay unless the Sox are doing it.

Good for KW, I'm sure a lot of teams would deny requests like that, especially a prominent base stealer like VC.

I'm a little disappointed at the lack of firecracker puns/jokes in this thread

Well, we don't want to make it out to be an explosive situation. There's really not that much bang in this story, is there? If you start thinking there is, then a whole string of problems can go off, no?

Good enuf?

KW was trying to keep Coleman from lighting a fire under the Cubs asses.

He says Vince should have considered it a compliment, but the whole thing blew up in his face.

Yeah, there were some short fuses involved . . .

Geez, I remember being "called up" from minors to majors in Little League and then not being allowed to pinch hit in a world series game because it was technically against league rules. At the time I was pretty bummed, but I was also sort of flattered. Nice too see Vince Coleman has the maturity of a 5-year-old.

Oh no! Vince Coleman is mad at us. THE Vince Coleman. We're doomed! DOOMED, I say!

Its good to see KW burning personal bridges to put the team first. Another reason why this team will continue to sparkle.

(2 horrible attempts at puns)

Too bad for Vince Coleman. Maybe instead of the Scrubs wanting him to sit on their bench during a game, he can actually relay a message to the Scrubs coaches and tell Derrek Lee to watch his base coaches.

KW is A-OK in my book.
