In my mind, tomorrow's game is the most loseable for the White Sox. Contreras vs. Zambrano. A couple of reasons:

Contreras hasn't ever been able to get himself up for big games. With the Yankees he's 1-4 with an ERA over 10.00 against the Red Sox. That is bad. Also, Zambrano is obviously a talented pitcher.

That said, there are two ways that the Sox could luck out tomorrow. Zambrano could have a bad elbow like it's been talked about for the past week. He'll get through the first inning on adrenaline, but in the second or third he'll start to feel it and have to come out. Then Sox fans will laugh at Baker and Cubs fans will call for his head. Second, Zambrano could let the atmosphere get to him and get himself tossed by the 4th inning. I think tomorrow is one game where the fans in the seats could have a significant effect on the game. If the ump's strikezone isn't 24 inches wide and 60 inches high, Zambrano will get upset and when Sox fans boo him he may just lose it.

Of course, the Sox bats seem to be coming around a bit, so maybe they'll just knock him out with 6 ERs by the 4th inning anyway.

I want to see Contreras work fast and throw fastballs, except to Derek Lee. Thats a struggling lineup and theres no need to pitch a finesse type game and beat them with the forkball. I'm sure AJ knows that and I hope he calls for the fastball at the beginning and end of most sequences.

One question: do Cuban pitchers bat(in Cuba)? If so, then the Sox aren't at as much of a disadvantage as many people think the next two games without the DH.

Well according to some recent news, Sunday's matchup will be BMac vs. Prior. :o: I don't think that fatass will last more than 5 innings tomorrow due to tennis elbow, or being ejected for beaning batters.

Contreras will be fine. The Cubs are hardly the Red Sox, and he's not on the Yankees anymore. Hopefully as mentioned he just comes out dealing and let's our awakening offense take care of Zambrano.

Thats BS. The White Sox are the best team in baseball. The Cubs are in the bottom half. Zambrano is a very good pitcher, but he isn't great like the Cubs fans seem to think he is. The Sox bats are warming up, and they are looking for blood after Zambrano's fist pumping antics.
On the other hand, Contreras has been very good this year except for control problems. There is no reason to expect he will do poorly tomorrow, especially against the Cubs offensive juggernaut. He has done horribly against the Red Sox, but that is another story. The Red Sox hitter just own him for some reason. The Yankees-Red Sox games may be big, but the biggest game Contreras pitched in his life was the exhibition game against the Orioles with the Cuban National Team. He was dominant.

Some good points. Maybe I'm just frustrated by Contreras. Obviously talented beyond belief but sometimes it seems like he goes out their without his head. He's Jon Garland of years past but he's older. I mean, people can't touch Contreras when he's in the strike zone but he's just so often out of the strike zone. Like I said, I just think this is the Sox' most loseable game of the series, so if they can pull out a win tomorrow a sweep looks to be in the making.

I put Contreras in tomorrow to pitch for my fantasy team. Enough said how I think this game will go :)

I don't think the great "Z" will be on his game. Sox players seem juiced to rock this guy and I think the crowd may get on him a bit. If he doesn't get himself ejected I will be suprised.

Zambrano = :dtroll:

Well, Contreras has 7 strikeouts in 11 AB, and El Duque has 12 strikeouts in 19 AB.

All we have to do is get to the Cub's bullpen less than three runs down. Then it's "That's a White Sox winner"!

It would be quite an accomplishment by Mr. Jackass if he does not get launched by the umps at some point tommorrow (4th inning ?) If he doesn't, I think that as dumb as Johnny Baker is, dude, he's probably not going to keep him in the game too long. After a 136 pitch game, getting taken out the following start because of arm trouble, and then missing the next start with "tennis elbow", I think their going to be careful with him, and he'll be on a strict pitch count. Hopefully it doesn't matter, and the Sox light him up, and then they can tear into that bullpen too.

It's going to be a battle, but if anything Contreras took a hit right in his Pride last time out. I think not only is he looking to redeem himself for his last outing, but he'll be fired up by the atmosphere.......I could be wrong of course.

Personally if the cubs score less than 5 runs all series It will be a succesful series as far as our pitching goes. IMO this is the time for our Offense to show thier mettle

I highly doubt we're gonna see much problems against Z. Z isn't even as good as Toronto's Chacin, and look at how we handled him!

Pierzynski, Pods, and co. will prevail once again...

I have Sporting News Radio on 670 AM right now, and the guy just said Brandon McCarthy will be starting against Mr. Mild Temper tomorrow, and that Contreras is being pushed back to Sunday. He didn't say why, though....

They said on CSN's Sports Nite that Contreras was starting...But, if that indeed is the case, then I'd think the key to the game would be to score in the first inning to further demoralize that Cub offense.

Hmm... that doesn't seem to make a lot of sense, except for the fact that McCarthy was supposed to pitch tonight. I guess I would probably prefer McCarthy/Zambrano, Contreras/Prior matchups anyway.

I think today's game is very winable. I think our guys will get inside Zambrano's head when they are on base. I am very excited about this game too. Of all of the Cubs' pitchers, Zambrano seems to be the most despised. I hope we really beat up on Zambrano today.

A win today will lift some of the pressure on Mac's first start. Plus I want to see the Sox hitters destroy Zambrano.
