Great win! The Cubs are garbage. The only way we don't win this series is if Contreras and El Duque can't find the strike zone. I'm not sure why I was concerned going into this game. The Cubs are the worst team we've played in weeks.

PURE DOMINATION!

Nice game today by Freddy and the Sox. Keep it going!

Freddy was on fire from the get go. He snapped the curve ball well and was painting the corners early on.

Ump had a generous strike zone for both pitchers and Freddy took advantage. He worked up and down better than Maddux and had way more pop and that made the difference.

Anybody see this. I found it in the notes section of the game story.

Guillen, who'd complained that he had to park in a fast food restaurant lot across the street last year when the White Sox came to Wrigley, was pleased this time, saying he was next to Baker. Guillen said he had some trouble finding Wrigley Field because third base coach Joey Cora was driving and took the wrong street. Wrigley is eight miles from U.S. Cellular Field. ``He didn't know how to get here. It was a little embarrassing to come down here and ask people, 'Where's Wrigley Field?''' Guillen said, laughing. ``Joey got lost, not me. I was sleeping in the back seat of the car. We took the wrong street. My kids were saying, 'We got to go this way, this way.'''

I love the way Ozzie pokes fun at the Cubs in different ways.

You could pick from any number of plays. One big one was Luis getting Ramirez and Patterson with 1 on and one out and stopping the scrubs in their tracks. Garcia picking himself up after his mental error was also good.

Just got back from the very cold Urinal (my god, that breeze was absolutely ripping through the park) after watching My White Sox absolutely dominate the listless Flubs, with an almost flawless effort except for Iguchi's error and caught stealing. What a game by Freddy. Surprise dongs by Dye and Crede. Surprise clutch hitting from Paulie. AJ all over the freaking hay-ouse. Solid relief pitching and the big HEGAWN to "C-Pat" to end the game.

The crowd was very quiet for the most part, especially after the Sox put up the 3-spot. Pockets of Sox fans everywhere putting up chants of "Paulie" and "Cubbies suck," and a classy, subdued exit by the White Sox faithful.

Hopefully I'll return for the game on Sunday if I can find a cheap ticket. I just hope the temperature in the non-sunny parts of the park can rise above 53 degrees or whatever it was. BRUTAL.

I was listening to that jagbag Dan Plesac--what a tool! He was saying how the Sox were doing everything right...but he also said he didn't think the Sox were a VERY good team (apparently the Sox are average?). Well, this not-so-very-good team just handily beat the un-lovable LOSERS.

Of course, teams that do everything right are just lucky. No skill, talent, or teamwork is ever involved in doing things right.

Oh yea, was I the only one that started flipping over to Flub broadcasting after it was obvious the Sox were going to win, just to hear them sulk? Or did anyone else flip straight over to Cub Postgame Live after the game to hear Cub people talk about a Sox winner?

I'm listening to some Cubbie post-game show on the radio broadcast out of Springfield. It's a local program. Some Cub fan called in and it was obvious he doesn't have a clue. He thought the Sox were pretty good, but thinks that the Cubs can get to their bullpen, which he thinks is a "weakness." The host pointed out that Politte and Hermanson are really good, and that Hermy has yet to give up an earned run. The caller said "well, but how long can that last?" He went on to talk about how Shingo is really bad and he only throws "45 miles an hour." The host agreed, but they talked as if Shingo is making a ton of appearances as a staple in the bullpen, which he's not.

The caller went on to argue that he is shocked that Podsednik is stealing as many bases as he is. He didn't think he was all that fast when he was with Milwaukee. Huh??? Both the caller and host believe that Podsednik will break down because of the "wear and tear" his body will take from stealing. The caller believed that you can't win by stealing bases (ignoring that the Sox are 18 games above .500) because only line-drives, home runs and big, big innings will win games these days.

The caller believes that if the Cubs can just hang around .500, they will be fine. Totally clueless. :dtroll:

For those of you who went to game like I did, weren't you rolling your eyes at the huge howls of "YES! YES!" every time "D-Lee" hit a sky-high fly ball? It's almost as if these goofs don't even know their own ballpark; the way that wind was rolling in, nothing hit up in the stratosphere was going to get out, unlike Ricky Gutierrez's wind-aided Bozo's Buckets grand slam a few years ago. The only chance for a "zinger" were ropes like Crede's and Dye's.

I just got back and i'd like to say that it was nice to got to a WHITE SOX - cubs game that didn't get out of hand.In fact everyone i saw was pretty civil.

I was dreading going because i'm not doing so well health wise but i had a great time.

Also,it was very funny listening to "the score" on the drive to my daughters house.
Those guys were so depressed and angry that it might not be a bad idea to put them on suicide watch.

Great outing by Garcia, which was the key to the game. He challenged the hitters and worked ahead in the count, which was a stark contrast to the previous outing against Baltimore. Way to go, Freddy!

I wonder if the Flub fans at the Urinal enjoyed our weak offense and our inferior starting pitching.

That was a nice game! Freddy looked great today. I was hoping he'd bounce back from a poor outing last Saturday. I guess all it took was a little Cubs offense to get him going. Pierzynski looked really good today. It's nice to see Dye starting to heat up a bit. I hope Ozzie doesn't sit him tomorrow. Dye needs to stay out there every day to continue gaining some confidence. Also a nice game by Crede. He only had the one hit for a HR, but he hit another ball hard that was caught at the center field wall by a leaping Patterson and he made quite a few plays at 3rd.

Dye is hitting .293 in May!!! And a .970 OPS. That he is not perfoming is one of the biggest myths in Soxdom at the moment. Look into it folks and find a new scapegoat.

On the other hand, Paulie is only hitting .203 in May with a .733 OPS. He does have 30 RBI's so I'm not going to get on his case too much either.

AJ said after the game that Freddy did not throw at Lee intentionally. He said that Freddy can be a little wild sometimes in the first inning. The Sox know to keep the ball tight to Lee, and I think Freddy just let one get a little too far inside.

Here in the Phoenix area those "Chicago dog" places always seem to be run by Cub fans. They’ll have Cubs and Bears stuff plastered everywhere and often not even a token photo of Comiskey Park or something for the Sox. One not too far from my place is even called "Cubs Park" -- not surprisingly it sucks! (at least it doesn’t smell like the real thing!) They’ve always got the cub game on in there…I wish I had the time to go down there this weekend to root loudly and obnoxiously for the Sox!!

-2 exceptions to the above if you’re craving Chicago-style food:

"Windy City Sliders" (Indian School and approx 34th St.)– fake White Castles (not even in the same league as the real thing). Last time I was in there (albeit it was a few years ago) they had the "Big Hurt Pinball" machine in addition to some other cool Sox memorabilia.

"Dazzos" (63rd Ave/ Glendale) Sox are represented here (though probably not as much as the cubs) + way better dogs, etc. than most places in Chicago itself.

I was in 229 and you're right it was freezing. But in the sun it was beautiful, borderline hot in the car.

There were as many Sox fans as there are cub fans at the Cell during interleague. There were several people around me to high-five, which I was able to do with regularity. There was much Sox chanting and zero cub chanting to counter it.

I couldn't believe how much piss was on the bathroom floor. I'm not wearing my shoes in my house until I wash them. There was even a plastic cup full of it on the seat--some cub fan's idea of a prank. Total pigs. I guess those who do their business in troughs ought to act like pigs.

There are two good things about Wrigley: the small size, which makes it a breeze to get to your seat from the outside; and the leg room, which is greater than we have at the cell. Every time I go there I freeze my balls off. And we paid 40 dollars to park! This was such a hectic, frustrating, inconvenient trip to the park it's not even funny. Not that I ever had doubts, but our park is ten times better than that dump. Having been there as an adult only cemented that stance. I can't believe it gets the praise it does from the media. Uneblievable.

It was an awesome game though. Best Garcia's been this year, and he picked a good day. He just threw strikes. Maddux just didn't and that's why he got hit. If you throw strikes and do your thing, the cubs can't beat you. They're not going to make anything happen like we do with bunting and 2 out hits and steals. If you pitch like a jerk and go 3-1 all the time and have to serve up belt high fastballs, then they can beat you. If we get our typical 2005 pitching for the three games, we're sweeping.

Went to the game today - some quick thoughts:

Agree with cheeses on the temperature - it was awfully cold if you were in the shade
Sox fans were definitely making some noise - the "Paulie" chants were fantastic - really loud
Hadn't been to Wrigley in a couple of years, and was really disgusted by the fans more than anything. Cubs fans may poke fun at us, but let me tell you - the Sox fans today were (for the most part - see next item) on good behavior. I agree with the poster above that said that Sox fans showed class on the way out of the ballpark. OTOH, Cubs fans were just sloppy drunk and rude all day.
The only exception to the point above was an incident that happened in section 211. Anyone else see it? I don't even want to re-hash details, but needless to say, it didn't help some of the stereotyping of Sox fans that goes on. :(:

Whoever threw something at JD deserves to get hit in the face.

J.D. should have approached an umpire and explained to him what happened. Then there would have been a stop in play and the announcers would be forced to mention the classless acts of the Wrigley faithful.

What a beauty to tune in to at the tail-end of the game. My students were taking a quiz, but I watched a bunch of this on Game Cast, turning on the game in the 8th just in time to watch Dye hit his home run.
