TORONTO -- The Toronto Blue Jays have contacted ESPN baseball analyst Buck Showalter in regard to their general manager opening, the Toronto Globe and Mail reported on Saturday.

The Blue Jays are hoping Showalter, who has served as manager of the New York Yankees and Arizona Diamondbacks, will interview for the job. However, the Globe and Mail reported that there appears to be some uncertainty on Showalter's part about the Toronto job.

The Blue Jays have received permission to talk to Minnesota Twins GM Terry Ryan as well. Ryan would like to stay with the Twins, but would be out of a job if the Twins are dissolved.

Mike Arbuckle, assistant general manager of the Philadelphia Phillies, was interviewed by the Blue Jays on Thursday, according to the newspaper. His duties with the Phillies included being director of scouting and player development.
