Anyone with info on this? i though benito mussolini's moniker was 'el duque' or something to that effect, like 'the leader'...

any info is greatly helpful, me and some of my friends have been having a debate on this for a little while. thanks!

It's actually Spanish for "The Duke" so you were close :)

As for how he got it, I have no idea.

Both Duce and Duque come from the same Latin word, which was originally, iirc, a military rank of some sort.

I'm sure it was just a compliment from his buddies or co-workers or what have you. He was probably just a man's man and a leader-of-the-pack type of guy.

Yeah, and Carlos Lee was referred to as "El Caballo," which means "the horse."

His dad was a Cuban legend! He's considered one of the top cuban pitchers ever.

The authors clear up some El Duque mysteries, such as his age;

is his press released D.O.B correct now? has it changed in his MLB career? why would he lie about his age when Big Unit and Clemens are still winning ballgames or was it just varied reports in the media that threw everyone off?
