For simplicity sake. Here is the condensed version...
Do not attempt to evade the language filters. Keep the language acceptable to younger fans. Posts that attempt to use mis-spelled profanity in an attempt to circumvent the filter process will be deleted and the poster will be banned. This includes typing things like F*** and S***. Type the words you want and let the filter do it's job.
Posters of all nationalities, sex, religion and ethnicity post here. WSI is an equal opportunity website. People who post comments that harass, defame or otherwise belittle those who are different from themselves will have their messages deleted and they will be banned.
Limit your signature images to 15KB and roughly 5 square inches. If you have questions about how to determine if an image is appropriate, please post them in the Test Board. Signature images should not be pornographic nor should they include links to commercial sites or other sports message board forums. People who violate these rules will have their signature images removed and their privileges revoked.
No selling of any product for profit is allowed at WSI. If you want to trade or sell your Sox seats, you can do so in the Ticket Exchange Forum, but only at face value. People who try to use these forums to turn a profit on Sox seats will be banned for a minimum of 30 days.
Certain topics are taboo at WSI. Discussing them will earn you at least a temporary ban. These topics include:
Attendance - no one wants to hear about it. We all go to as many games as time and finances afford. Making broad sweeping generalizations about Sox fan loyalty is trolling. We don't allow trolling.
Politics: Once again, the staff is really getting tired of babysitting miscreants. From now on all political thread hijacks will receive a one week to three month banning, left to the discretion of the unfortunate staff member left to clean up the trash.
Bumping old threads that drew little or no interest by posting the word "bump" or bringing back really old threads to post something meaningless or simply typing "I agree".
Be careful with how you use copyrighted material around these parts. Violating copyright laws is a fast way to get this website in a lot of legal trouble and violators will be dealt with harshly. These violations include - but are not limited to:
selling, trading or otherwise distributing pirated copies of copyrighted material. That includes all games the White Sox played in that were taped by a member of these forums. Please do not ask if anyone can send you a copy nor offer to distribute copies you have made.
Quoting copyrighted material is covered by the "fair use clause". There are limits to what can be considered fair use for quoting articles, poetry, books, or any other copyrighted material. For most prose, such as newspaper articles, once more than about 10% of the article is quoted, you are stretching the boundaries of "fair use." The best advice is to simply give a brief synopsis of the article and post a link. If you feel you must quote, keep it very brief. Just because it is on the web doesn't make it public domain.
As the board gets bigger, threads are getting longer. This tends to put a strain on the server when threads get above 500 posts - especially if it is a popular thread which a lot of people are loading and reloading regularly. From now on, any thread that breaks 500 posts will be closed and a second thread started with a link to the original thread in the first post of the new "Thread II: Return of The Thread" thread.
Most of these rules are covered in the Code of Conduct (http://www.flyingsock.com/MainPages/ConductCode.htm) at the bottom of every forums page. Other links you may find helpful include the WSI Dictionary (http://www.whitesoxinteractive.com/glossary/) where you can read up on slang terms, nicknames and other useful information. There is also an extensive list of FAQ's (http://www.whitesoxinteractive.com/vbulletin/faq.php?faq=vb_faq#faq_vb_user_maintain) that will answer most of the technical questions you have. We also highly recommend that you check out the Home Page (http://www.flyingsock.com) where regular weekly articles and recaps of all games are posted. There are many fine features on that home page including a photo gallery (http://www.whitesoxinteractive.com/4images/) where you can post your own Sox related photos if you desire and many wonderful historical articles and pictures.
Often before a situation gets out of hand, a mod or admin will attempt to contact a poster who is in danger of getting banned. Those messages will come via Private Message or E-Mail. It is your job as a poster to learn how to retrieve these messages. If you ignore the attempts by the WSI Staff to ask you to tone it down, you will still be punished. Ignorance of the warnings is no excuse to be allowed back into the forums. Keep your profile e-mail address up to date. Bad addresses cause the admins to get rejected mail notifications. You will be banned if we get notified of your bad e-mail address.
Please treat the Mods and Admins at WSI with respect. All of us do this not only for free, but actually pay for the privilege of running this site out of sheer love for the White Sox and because we enjoy having a community where everyone feels welcome to talk Sox baseball and many other topics. If a Mod or Admin asks you to stop doing something, please just do it. None of us look forward to banning people - especially long time posters, but none of us are afraid to do it if the situation calls for it.Thank you.
