FORT MILL, SC – Prior to today’s game against the Ottawa Lynx the Charlotte Knights/Chicago White Sox have assigned catcher Jamie Burke to Charlotte as well as releasing outfielder Jeremy Giambi.
Burke, 33, was hitting .284 (23-81) with three home runs and nine RBI in 24 games at Charlotte before being called up to Chicago. Burke was also in the middle of a 10-game hitting streak where he was batting .432 (16-37) with two home runs. Burke grounded out in his only at bat during his time with the White Sox. Burke has a career .328 (44-134) batting average with 17 RBI's in 73 career games in the major leagues.
Giambi, 30, was hitting .000 (0-8) in 4 games with Charlotte. The 5-foot-11, 216-pounder is a career .263 (372-1,417) hitter with 52 home runs and 209 RBI in 510 games, over six major-league seasons.
