A win tonight against TB gives us the best start, after 32 games, in our 104 year history!

Right now we're tied with the 1919 Sox, but they happened to lose their 32nd game

I hope you didn't just curse our team tonight...

Best starts are great, but how about a great finish (especially since the Sox play the Twins 13 times in the second half). As the Bulls used to say "It don't mean a thing, unless you get the ring!"

Personally, I would like to see the Sox snag the best 50-game start by going 40-10. That would require us to go 16-3 (which we have just done). That would put us above the 1984 Tigers (39-11) and tie us with the 1928 & 1939 Yankees, who were the only other teams to play .800 ball after 50 games.

If we are going to have an historic season, we might as well GO LARGE!

Thanks for jinxing the team. I am not even going to bother watching them tonight.

I just ran some scenarios at the Streak Analysis website to see how
teams that finish the season stongly fair. I looked at the best finishes
over the last 81 games and of the top 40 teams in that category (playing .691 ball and better) only 10 went on to win the World Series and only three of those are since 1942!

The 1970 Orioles finished 57-24
The 1961 Yankees finished 56-25
The 1975 Reds finished 56-25

So perhaps history is telling us that it is much better to start strong than to finish strong?

Interesting that doing in the next 19 games what we just did, will give us the best 50 game start ever. Who'd a-thunk it?

I might add that our very own Winning Ugly Sox are 16th in that group of 40, finishing 1983 at 57-24 (.704)

Tito Landrum was obviously unimpressed :whiner:

I'm more concerned with ASB and beyond. The good thing about the amazing start is hopefully we can put some formidable distance between us and the Twinkies so they never really do get to catch up.

This is freaky, though! What a year so far!

A start like 1919 is great. Top it off with a (regular season) finish like 1983, and I'll be happy.

Then you would have the 1983 White Sox.

I won't be truly happy unless we go all the way. I don't see how we haven't done it in so long. All you gotta do is win the division, then go 11-8 against a tough schedule.

If we get hot, anything can happen. And this looks like kind of a down year in baseball, especially if the Yankees continue sucking. We gotta take the bull by the horns, baby. This is an opportunity. (of course finally beating the Twins would be a good start)
