Hell of a play by savior Robinson Cano there to open the floodgates. I feel bad for tonight's starting pitcher, Henn. "Hey kid, get out there in place of Randy Johnson and save this $200 million ballclub." Completely unfair to him, if you ask me.

The Yankees are officially the White Sox of the last 5 years. All offense, no defense or real pitching and completely shut down by bad teams.

Edit: Maybe just 4 years.

Our defense at its worst was better than the Yankees. Our starting pitching was bad, but not *this* bad. And our offense was just about as good. The Yanks aren't as good as the Sox of the last few years. Actually...they kind of remind me of the Rockies.

The best thing is, there's no hope for them in sight! HAHAHAHAHA! They're old, have no minor league talent, and they're on the hook w big long contracts. KW is a genius compared to Cashman, look at the evidence. Cashman puts big money into Jaret Wright and Pavano and an apparently withered Johnson, while KW signs Buerhle to an extension, Shingo, Garcia, Hernandez, Hermanson, etc for half the price. Signs rowand, uribe and tadahito all for less than 3.5 mil/yr a piece. Picks up guys off the scrap heap like Politte, Pierzynski, Widger, and trades b-prospects for low rent guys like Marte while still maintaining a crop of good prospects in guys like McCarthy, Anderson, Young, Sweeney, Gonzalez, Fields etc. Looked like an idiot trading for everett again, but now looks like a genius. Meanwhile, cashman starts the game at thirdbase and is getting picked off. If cashman isn't fired within 2 months(probably more like 1), I'll eat my hat.

And just to top it off, Red Sox fans have long awaited the fall of the Yanks, yet they're still not in 1st place with an equally crumbling pitching staff! Could life be any sweeter?

I'd honestly be surprised if Cashman got fired. I bet the way things work over there is that Big Stein hands Cashman (How appropriate of a name) several million dollars and says "Cashman....go get X player regardless of cost". There was a rumor last year that he tried that with Magglio when he killed them in the Bronx. Cashman and Big Stein are probably co-GM's

I love how they keep referring to the Mets as "low payroll". I guess anything under 200 mil is low if you're a Yanks fan. Also, many of them seem to think the Yanks "rely too much on the long ball." Gee, I thought only lunatic sox fans would think that was possible.

Lucky for the Yankees that George is going to be preoccupied with Bellamy Road (his Derby-favorite horse), possibly for the next month.

Even if his horse loses, he'll probably just buy the one that does end up winning :D:

The Yankee fans can kiss my butt when it comes to complaints. They've won 4 World Series titles since 1995 and been to the playoffs every year. As Gardenhire says, the game of baseball is about averages and its time for the Yankees to suck. It didn't hurt that MLB changed the rules to address the Yankees $200 million payroll, but screw them. Baseball needs an enemy and its great when they fail.

It's Izzy Alcantrara, IIRC. At the time a minor league Red Sox player.

I like these bogus trades these Yankee fans like to come up with (they must think they can package any number of crappy minor leaguers with cash and get superstars)... I guess reality sucks for them as while the Weaver/Brown deal might look like a wash because both are doing bad, but they did give up Brazoban in the deal who has been filling in very nicely for the injured Gagne and he could be the set up man that the Yankees don't have now.

Cashman doesn't have a whole lot of control over who the Yankees sign. Really, he's just a puppet GM who's been trying to get himself fired for a few years.

All Coaches - Crap

And for that matter - OLD CRAP

That video is the infamous 'Izzy' Alcantara who Dan Duquette protected instead of David Eckstein in 2000. This was the end of his Red Sox career.

On July 3, 2001 Pawtucket Red Sox outfielder Israel ('Izzy') Alcantara was hit by a pitch thrown by Scranton Wilkes- Barre Red Barons pitcher Blas Cedeno. Alcantara apparently took offense, karate kicking catcher Jeremy Salazar and charging the mound before squaring up to fight all comers

Yank loss too much for Boss
George Steinbrenner loomed above the Yankees as usual last night, sitting in a luxury suite and peering down at his $200 million problem. He could not have liked what he saw. The Boss had stayed away the past two nights, but wanted to take a look at his beloved Yankees before traveling to Churchill Downs to root on his prized Bellamy Road in Saturday's Kentucky Derby.

Joe, Bombers get bedeviled
Even after Joe Torre held yet another team meeting before last night's game, the Bombers still played without inspiration or emotion, falling behind early and going relatively quietly in a 6-2 loss to the Devil Rays that dropped them into a tie for last place in the AL East.

Yes a very good read

Steinbrenner is OBSESSED with winning another WS before he goes to the big skybox in the sky so I can't see him tolerating any rebuilding phase.

I heard this phone call *live* late last night and it is classic sports radio....to see how bad it has gotten in New York listen to Chester from the Bronx

So far this is proving that Torre aka Casey Stengle is no better than any other manager. Hell, is there anyone here who can't wave to the bullpen in the 9th to bring in Rivera to protect a lead ? You're no better then your horses, and these yankmee horses are ready for the glue factory. :D:
