Coincidence, perhaps, but another nice footnote to the season.

I think tonight was a big step in the season for Shingo. After the first three pitches he realized he can actually get his fastball over and he can get his fastball over for strike one. I think this was a big step for Shingo, because we know he has the stuff. He just needs to trust his stuff and go out there and work efficiently. He worked quick tonight, kept his pitch count down, and most importantly showed confidence on the mound. Now, yes this is no Twinkie team, but any gain in confidence is a good thing!

Shingo is coming back to his closer position!

When the man starts ahead in the count he's a completely different pitcher (like most pitchers.) That first strike is so big for him, because then he can mess around with the batter a lot more by throwing that nasty change up.

So let's use them. There is no holy script that says that only pitcher closes. There will be situations where Hermanson, Marte or even Politte might match up best for the close.

If Garland keeps putting up these numbers during the season he could be the last pitcher since Denis Eckersley to win an MVP. I'm not saying it will happen but it's fun to talk about.
Sorry, getting back to the topic of tonight's win what can you say except Wow! If Iguchi keeps up at this rate he is Rookie of the Year! Congrats to Mark he gave up three homers but they were all solo shots. He pitched eight solid innings tonight and overall he has been playing great during the 05 season!

Sox win, Cubs lose...so close to another Sox Triple Crown in the making. There's another game I'm watching, but I don't dare mention it until it ends.

You know, a few days ago, I wasn't too concerned about the "lead in all games" record, since all that matters to me is the score at the end of the game. But when that bottom of the 8th came around, I really didn't want the streak to end. Consider me converted; I'll be on pins and needles until the streak comes to a close...hopefully about 140 games from now.

Good pitching, and no errors. The Sox only had to get 27 outs. That's a huge reason why they win these tight games. Last several years, the oposition got 28 or 29 outs, and the Sox lost these games 7-5. Good to see Dye starting to hit.

This is a little off subject but that national media spotlight will be shining bright! I heard a rumor about the tam on the SI cover!

That was a good point mentioned about the White Sox half of the seventh inning. Had the White Sox lost this game the media would have questioned Guillen about sending A.J. with Crede at the plate! I however support Ozzie's decision because overall this season Crede has been hot and as a good manger you have to roll the dice sometimes and hope that Crede makes contact for a hit on the pitch.

Another one run win........ho hum........The most successful teams in baseball always find a way to win the close ones the majority of the time. Buerle - while not at his best - still pitches 8, saving the bullpen and keeping us in the game. Ozzie finishes with Shingo keeping his confidence up. I'm in Chicago on business so I was able to make it to the game. Despite the 2-0 and 4-2 deficits I was never worried. This Sox team feels different. Gooch had a great game. It was great to see Dye start to come out of his slump, as his average is creeping to around .200; and Rowand had himself a nice game, as well. Props go out to Iguchi for his 4-for-4 night and to Shingo for his save. :D: As Ozzie said in his postgame conference, "it was a night for the Japanese men."

This was the coldest game I've been to in two years, but the come-from-behind win made it all worth it! :bandance:

Good game by the good guys. Burlymon not on top of his game but gave 8 good innings. It is funny, Sweeney has always seemed to have his number. They pulled it out anyway. ANd "my guy" Shingo pulls out another save. Looked Great, And Iguchi was just fabulous, I would never have guessed he woudl be hitting this well. Crazy Carl was clutch. And Paulie is just completely lost. ANd now Crede seems to have fallen back to his usual bat throwing self. But overall, no complaints, great to keep the winning streak going, and congrats to the team on 26 straight games with a lead held.

Crede cannot get caught looking at STRIKE 3 with a runner attempting to steal--especially when that runner is A.J. Pierzynski! Weak.

That was the pitch to hit that Crede struck out on. Waist-high, right over the middle of the plate. It was a tailing fastball, but that was the one to hit. I don't know what he was looking for, but it wasn't that.

I laughed at KC for Inentionally walking Paulie, and then it ended up working out for them with Rowand and Dye both K'ing on Sisco's nasty slider.

Came damned close to not working out when Dye jacked that pitch long gone but just foul.

On side note, nice to see Dye have a solid night at the plate. Single, double and a just miss on a 3-run jack. He showed hustle on the basepaths too, easily beating out the infield single and creating the double on a hit he could have settled for one on...

Indeed. He crushed that one. Just a little bit out in front.

Dye has definitely showed signs of turning it around. In addition to last night's 2 hits, he hit the ball hard in the 1st game against Detroit before getting sick. He made a nice catch too.

I don't like all of the Dye-doubters around here. The guy's career stats speak for themselves. He's a career .270 hitter (including this year's dismal start), he's had 4 years above .280, he's never committed more than 8 errors in a season, and he won the gold glove in 2000. He started off slow, but he will be fine.
