They just played Ozzie's Magglio rant, with all the bleeps. He actually sounded pretty calm when saying what he said; it wasn't a Lee Elia-style tirade.

VERY favorable report on Guillen so far. I'm very suprised. More to come on the Sox, though it looks as if it's the "dark cloud" type.

I hadn't heard it before. I actually think there was a lot more there than just the words. It was very personal and you could tell Ozzie had been hurt by Ordonez's comments.

"I thought he was a good idea from day one"
Ordonez-Ozzie: "He sounded like a mob boss!"
"... and then, out of nowhere, he rips Frank Thomas"
"Pick your battles.. Ozzie goes off on a rant 4 or 5 times a week!"
Closed by saying he could become one of the best managers out there.

Other Guy
"To be able to be himself, he has to have a winning record"
" They've gotta win that division... the smell of success can hide a lot of the other odors."
Not a cultural thing, but what you see is what you get. He's not new to the game..."An old pro... he just feels he needs to be this way and that there will be no consequences as long as he wins"

Moron
"98% of OG has been terrific, the other 2% is the problem."
"He's the biggest personality of the team (when you think of the White Sox, you immediatly think of Guillen)... he has to be more responsible with his mouth"
Doesn't ChiSox need a personality though, competing with Cubs? "He's out of his mind [with his rants]. He's crossed the lines. SLURS BEHIND THE SCENES??"---Ozzie called a reporter a Mexican a year ago and the reporter did not like that. Female reporters walked away from a press conference and Ozzie said something to them. (This is news to me? )
They're now a first place team, cover story USA today. Gotta act more responsible.

Other guy
His nick name in Venez is "big mouth"
Calling out Maggs Venez heritage shocked Venezuela.... an "eye-opener".
Jay is right.. this could become a national story. Over time the focus will be on him much more if the Sox keep winning.

Moron
"I'm a douche."
Sox have an inferiority complex but They have been getting national attention.
Only hurts the organization when Ozzie is loudmouthed.

The last article he wrote was about Ozzie/Maggs.

And Martin, if it's so bad to talk bad about a Venezualan player, what does that say about Maggs, considering he drew first blood.

Ooh, don't remember that one, but certainly it would have been the most accurate thing he said.

He kept saying that management has to basically put a stop to Ozzie's rampaging ways, but he just doesn't get that the team isn't being run to satisfy what Jay needs or satisfy his wants. Ozzie is what they want him to be, and they won't ask him to change as long as the team performs well.

When ESPN and the likes are getting "journalists" like Mariotti its only going to bad talking the White Sox, just nationally on ESPN rather than locally on WGN or in the Tribune....

Is this story still around? I had just assumed it was dead in the water, since, you know, we had set a franchise record for April wins in the time since Ozzie's remarks.

I have a feeling when Garland and Buehrle are battling down to the last couple of series for the Cy Young, the boys at Bristol will be asking: "Even though you wrapped up the Central back in August, set a new major league record by leading all 162 games, and topped 3 million in attendance, couldn't you have won more games if Ozzie hadn't went off at Maggs back in April?"

Shorty1983

Watching the old footage of Guillen when he was a player brought back many good memories. Since the tirade of Mags, it slowly faded away and not much has been from both ends. The team has been winning and all the talk has been about JG and the pitching staff. I think it's just a personal vendetta the cubune writers have with Ozzie. All in all, praising the sox on its best franchise record in April sounds great.

IowaSox1971
05-03-2005, 01:46 AM
Obviously, Ozzie's anti-Maggs rant has not hurt the team. In fact, it probably took some pressure off the players because Ozzie said this during the two-game home series with Minnesota, which we swept. Then we won our next six games, all on the road. So, I'd say Ozzie's tactic worked. He showed that this year is different -- we're not going to back down from a division rival.

By the way, ESPN should not have had Mariotti on the show. He admitted that he has not written about the Sox since the Ozzie-Maggs exchange, and that was several weeks ago. If you haven't even seen the team play in a few weeks, how can you provide "expert" commentary about what's going on?

MIgrenade
05-03-2005, 02:25 AM
Mariotti is there because he works for ESPN and they can call him anytime, or so my guess goes. He's a jerk-off but that's who we have representing our city.

Can someone explain why Jay doesn't get called out when he talks about "Ozzie ripping FranK"???????? THATS NOT WHAT HAPPENED!!! How many times does Ozzie have to explain what was actually said, as opposed to what it was twisted into? And why do people on shows like this and Dan Patricks radio show even listen to the real story if they're just gonna forget it 2 seconds later?
