The combination of the Sox playing good ball and Sam Sosa coming to town has ticket sales moving good. This should bode well for the Sox because as all diehard Sox fans know that April and May are our slowest months.

2 million plus is in the bag and Kenny will spend that money to help the club to add players as needed.:bandance:

* Torn Labrums views on Sox attendance should be required reading for all new WSI'ers. Torn has it pegged 100% .

That's ok. They will leave in droves after the 7th inning. Habits die hard.

Encouraging news, but so far we're ranked 25th out of 30 in attendance this season. That's depressing!

I thought we had 2 million in the bag last year, but our 2nd half collapse torpedoed attendance and we finished 1.9 million ranked 21st (behind franchise powerhouses such as the Brewers).

As long as they are paying customers I'll grudgingly put up with their annoyance.

That extra money might just land us a stud down the stretch:gulp:

I'll be at the last game of the Baltimore series. Not because of Sosa either.

I'm pretty sure that somebody will still complain about tonight's attendance though.

And overall we've been pretty lucky with the weather. The Flubs have taken the brunt of the rain and bad weather in town. I was hoping we'd rank higher as well, but we will when all said and done.

The O's series is going to be really weird because the Cubs fans who invade will be trying to balance their hatred and booing of Sammy Sosa with their hatred and cheering against the White Sox. Should be interesting to see.

Seeing how the Orioles and White Sox have been playing lately it should genuinely be an exciting series of baseball.

I didn't know we drew less than the Brewers. That's bad.

Here are the 2004 totals: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/attendance?sort=home_avg&year=2004&seasonType=2

I think the Sox would do better attendance-wise if MLB would go back to a more balanced schedule. We play too many games against KC and Detroit that few care about. It would be nice to get NY, Boston, Baltimore in here more than just one series a year.

Don't trust ESPN for squat. They still list our park capacity at 47,098 (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/teams/stadium?team=chw)
when in fact it has been 40,615 for 2 seasons now. Who knows what other numerical errors they might have in their "stats."

It's the Flub Fan Factor:

Avg. Att. per game:
SOX: 24,437
MIL: 25,462

Avg. Att. per game (minus Cub games):
SOX: 23,853
MIL: 23,301

The 10 Cubs-Brewers games averaged over 42,000/game.

Not to mention the fact that the "newness" of Miller Park hasn't worn off yet.

That makes sense. Thanks for breaking that down for me. I'm hoping we go over 2 million this year.

Just a quick calc: if we do get to 2.4mil, that's a 500k increase in attendance. If you assume each additional fan brings in $25 in profits from tickets, parking, concessions, that's $12.5mil for Kenny to play with. If yo think a $35/fan profit is more realistic, it's $17.5mil.

That oughta buy a nice Yankee or 2 when they start rebuilding for next year! Hideki Matsui, anyone?

I've got a really easy solution to stay away from the annoying Cub fans that are going to be at those games: Don't sit in right field, come sit in left (sec. 158) with the rest of us.

Since when has there ever been a demonstrated link between Sox attendance and Sox payroll?

Guys I don't think there's going to be a landslide of Cub fans invading the Cell just to see... Sammy.

I really don't think they care at this point.

As for attendance, if we keep winning--just watch.
