With all this discussing about bad umpiring, which we've hardly seen these past two games, which umpires do you think are the best? For some reason, Tim McClelland comes to mind.

the hallmark of a good umpire is that you DON'T notice him.

A thankless job, no doubt.

I was just going to say...the BEST umpires are the ones who's names you don't know. As cliche as it sounds...

You should have gotten a picture of him as he's "flexing" the calls. I'm convinced he can beat the feces out of 85% of that league.

I grew up as a Jerry Markbreit fan. But he's retired.

I tried, couldn't find one, but yeah...his constant flexing is quite an inspiration.

and the only childhood memory I have of Cashen is from Troy Aikmen Football (Sega Genesis, bitches) :)

I couldn't agree more. The best umpires never get mentioned on Baseball Tonight.

That's the first person I thought of too.

I also like that guy who screams his called strikes.

SSSTTTRRRIIIKKKKEEEEEEEEEE!!!

It was awesome to see him call the Pedro-Smoltz matchup a couple of weeks go where Smoltz had 15 K's.

anybody know the name of that big-black ump who calls strikes like 8 seconds after the ball hits the catcher?

yeah it was random, but I've always wondered.

Rename this thread to; Who is the tallest midget amongst MLB umpires. I've seen a lot of bad umps, not many good.
