View Full Version : Twins blow 9th inning lead to Royals

The game is currently tied at 5 after the Royals came back from a late 5-3 deficit with one in the eighth and one in the ninth on an error by Juan Castro. Those Twins are just not human, as our pal Homefish always likes to say.

Even if they win, it's nice to see the Twins blow 2 run leads in the late innings with Rincon and Nathan to a team like the Royals. :D:

Now you've done it, MRKARNO! Your starting this scary jinxing thread will ensure a Twins win.

Pinch runner Rivas picked off of second base when runners were on 1st and 2nd with no outs and jacque jones up.

They're playing like the White Sox of old...

Let's see what happens.

And just like that, with one out Torii Hunter moves into scoring position on a WP.

Although interestingly, Sportsline's gamecenter has it "middle 10th", after 2 outs in the top 10......:?:

I was keeping up with the game on Sportsline and when the score turned 5-5, I almost yelled, "Whoo hoo!" in my office. It's nice to see that Nathan is human. Not that I think that Nathan is going to turn into a gas can like Dan Kolb has for the Braves, but if the Royals can get to Nathan, then it's possible that we can get to him, too.

...but if the Royals can get to Nathan...

To be fair, it was the Twins' second-string defense that got to Nathan, not the Royals.

They got out of it!

Can we make a KC WINS tag, for whenever they beat our division rivals.

Tony G at the dish with the winning run on second base and one out. The speedy Joe McEwing being the runner.

You can win the game and you swing at the first pitch just to pop up?

Reminds me of C.Lee.

From 5 up to 2.5 up in 2 1/2 days. Not a good sign.

Every team should be able to sweep KC. If not, it wasnt a successful series.

Saving grace: we're playing the Tigers & Royals for 6, they're playing the Indians & Angels. We may be able to pump this back up by a game or 2 if we can take care of our own business.

Well, as long as Karno doesn't keep creating these threads!!!

Yah, but it's a little worrisome that we're coming off what could be our hottest streak of the year (Rarely do any teams, even the best, have multiple 8 or 9 game winning streaks, winning 11 of 13 at one point, and only find ourselves 2.5 up on the Twins. Teams usually make big runs at that point, and stay there for awhile. I thought the Twins might be a little worried by our 5 game early lead.

Meanwhile, they probably just laughed.

Oh yah, it also worries me that the Top 4 in their bullpen have ERAs under 2.75

The point is that while they won, they had an eighth inning 2 run lead and found a way to blow that lead against the Royals, which demonstrates their vunerability. If Rincon and Nathan and the Twins defense are finding ways to blow it against KC, surely they will find ways to do the same against other teams. The fact that they almost lost this game is cause enough to be pleased with this game to some degree.

Just pray that the Royals can take at least one from the Indians over the weekend. Otherwise, they come here next week on an eleven game losing streak. And we all know how good recent Sox teams have been at "curing what ails" slumping teams and players...

"What's that, 2003 Tigers? On your way to becoming the worst team in Major League history? No problem! Invite the White Sox over for a series, and grab yourself a sweep..."

"What's that you say, Charles Thomas? Going 0-for-25 to start your season got you down? Well, step right up to the plate against the Chicago's ace, and swing away my friend! Today's your lucky day..."

Half of their losses have come at the hands of the White Sox. I once was relieved that we wouldn't be seeing them again until August. Now, I'm not so sure...:(:

In Nathan's defense, Juan Castro really flubbed that play in the bottom of the ninth.

That being said, the vaunted defense the Twins supposedly have/had is seriously in question. That, coupled with carrying 3.5 catchers on your team, will bite a team in the ass. Today's black hole, former Red Corky Miller, is 1-50 over the past two seasons.

Bottom line: the Royals are horrific beyond belief. In happier news, welcome back former all-star Ken Harvey!
