My apologies if someone else already mentioned this - but at the news conference for Cardinal Francis George's return from Rome, he said he was thrilled to see his beloved White Sox at the top of the standings and doing so well. It sounded like he then made some veiled crack at the Cubs being where they usually are.

You can never get enough help - especially with all the one-run games.

He sounds like a bitter SOX fan to me.

Who better to be bitter, right? Especially a Cardinal - St. Louis or religious.

Cool! I could have sworn I read or heard some story in the local press a few years ago that made it out like George was a big Cubs fan. What a surprise that the Chicago media misrepresented the facts!

I've read that George was a big Cub fan. The Chicago religious leader that was
a big White Sox fan was the recently departed Monsignor McDermott. In fact,
at McDermott's funeral, I believe the Card. said something to the effect that
he could never get him to see the light when it came to his choice of baseball
teams.

I remember reading that also. George is from the N Side but the quote from him sounds like he's being diplomatic

I don't think you have to be too diplomatic when it comes to baseball if you're the Cardinal of Chicago.

Hopefully the good Cardinal saw today's lineup card and said a prayer.
