View Full Version : WSI secret signal

I'm curious how WSI'ers meet each other away from the computer screen. Whenever I meet a fellow sox fan, I always want to ask if they are a member but for some reason never have. What does everyone else do in similar situations? I wish there was an easy way to spot members. Maybe next time you're walking the concourse at the cell, make a 'W' with your fingers and hold it above your head. Like how Univ. of Texas has the 'Hook 'em Horns' thing. Anyone in or is this dumb?

No, I--and many other Sox fans--normally have bags either black peckoe, spicy chai, or vanilla chamomile as part of our daily wardrobe. It's the style right now. We need to be more specific. That's good though. Keep thinking...

Teabags? Pfft. Back in my day, I used to tie an onion to my belt...which was the style at the time. They didn't have white ones...because of the war. All they had were those big yellow ones. And nickels had pictures of bumble bees on the back 'em. "Gimme 5 bees fer a quarter," you'd say. Anyway, where was I? Oh yeah! The important thing was...I had an onion on my belt...which was the style at the time.......

I'm thinking about having my Maggs #30 jersey redone this way. The only problem is I don't want people to think I'm knocking the real #72. I use 72 because it was my birth year. I'm going to my first game on May 15, I was thinking of dropping it off at Grandstand to be done. They do lettering and numbering, don't they? I know Triple Threat Sports in Mokena does, but Grandstand is right by the park.

the thing about the tee shirts (or is that "tea" shirts?) is that we live in the freakin' arctic circle insofar as baseball goes. So we'd only be able to identify each other after about July 31st (in which case, we'd all rather be naked due to heat prostration).

Buttons. Or stickers. On top of our winter parkas.

I sport the 1983 hat as well. I wish the Sox would bust them out for a game this season. I've noticed a lot of people at Illinois State wearing them too now....a lot of them look like they were bought a week ago. At least mine has some wear to it. Oh well, not making any accusations.

I also wear the 1983 hat. They are all around Northern Illinois Univ. and also here it seems most have been bought within the past month. Mine is lets just say, not white anymore. I love this style of jersey and with they would come back with it for a throwback game sometime. I play with those jerseys (which were actually '84) in mvp2004 just about every game.

WSI is not a 501(c)(3), and the proceeds go to help curtail PHG's expenses in maintaining this site.

If you want to make a donation to charity, may I recommend joining the Windy City Sox Fans. It is a 501(c)(3) corporation, and the money does go to a worthy charity, Chicago Baseball Cancer Charities, earmarked for Children's Memorial Hospital. In our 10 years of existence we have donated around $70,000 to CBCC (not bad for a group with about 200 members).

See the thread in the Sox Clubhouse regarding the WCSF's recruiting drive at tonight's game.

SPAMMER!

Seriously though, TL's organization does great work. Joining them (and WSI) are great ways to show your Sox Pride.

Personally, when looking for WSI members in public, I look for the black armbands denoting the last pitch was just a touch outside, the depressed shuffle - showing the Sox are only winning by 2 runs in the 3rd inning and of course the 1000 yard stare proving that the Sox are only leading the division by a couple of games and off to one of the best starts in their history.

If none of those are obvious, they normally have the pout, facial tick and shakes proving conclusively that their are only 2 outs in the ninth and the Sox are only leading by 10 runs...

Maybe next time you're walking the concourse at the cell, make a 'W' with your fingers and hold it above your head. Like how Univ. of Texas has the 'Hook 'em Horns' thing. Anyone in or is this dumb?

I like the idea of "Flying Under the Radar" t-shirts. Not only is the team doing so, but we are as WSI fans too.

On another note, I work at the Cell in the 300 club level. Where was everyone last night? I'm always pluggin the site and asking if people know about it. Surprisingly not as many as you'd think, but I know I've turned some people on to it. Especially out of towners.

I don't know about anyone else, but I was in Sec. 114, Row 19. I'll be out of town tonight, but tomorrow I'll be in Sec. 146, Row 26.

As an out of towner myself, WSI is the only place for me to get Sox news. I can't get Chicago sports talk or FSN Chicago. The papers are all on-line which is nice but I don't need to get into the bias that brings. My XM radio gives me the pre and post game shows for the Sox when they are playing in Chicago but other than that there are no other avenues to hear about my Sox other than WSI. I have a feeling that the other out of towners feel the same way.

I have the ideal setup. DirecTV with the sports package, MLB Extra Innings, Tivo, and XM, not to mention WSI.

The Sports package gives you comcast sports net Chicago so you can watch pre and post-game shows plus Tribune Live or any of that other crap. Extra Innings plus tivo gets you almost every game, whether you can catch it live or not. XM fills in the gap for when the game is not on Extra Innings.

I have often wondered which of the fans I see at the park are WSI supporters. I had an idea that since almost everyone going to games wears a Sox hat of some kind, there should be a WSI button with the flying sock logo that we could attach to our hats. That way we could stop and say "hi" to other members.

ESPN1000 is online, you can get live webstreaming of the talk shows on it at least.

At Wednesday's game, somebody screamed "AJ, you're my pick to click baby" at Pierzynsky; I know PTC is a Sox-wide thing, but I couldn't help but wonder.

Get the enitire membership to dye their hair green. That way anyone you saw at Comiskey with green hair is more than likely a member here.

Best do this before they change all the seats, or you won't see any of us.

I am new to this fan site, but you guys might be way to serious for me! I look forward to some great White Sox conversations.

We could get those nike wristbands, the ones that are the Livestrong bracelets, and have the sox logo on them. I live in NY, and I see those wristbands with yankees (of course) and red sox logos on them.Make the logo white and the resst of the band black.
