View Full Version : Ivan Rodriguez- too thin?

I heard the discussion by Hawk and DJ about how Irod had lost weight and they said they like him better this way.

Was he fat before? To me he was a muscular hard body similar to Maggs who has also lost weight this off-season. I really do not think they had much fat to lose so obviously they chose to lose bulky muscle. Ya gotta wonder....

Irod looks so thin he cannot weigh more than 170lbs now. Wont he wear down over the long hot summer behind the plate? He is going to be the incredible shrinking catcher by Aug.

Amazing what a great diet and active exercise regimen can do for a body, isn't it?

This guy is the poster child for getting of 'roids. I mean skeletor has arrived in Detroit and he's the Tiger catcher. He has no where near the power he's had in the past. Canseco mentioned his name and I believe him.

Yeah, Pudge decided that now was a good time to lose some weight. So did Giambi. So did Sosa. So did Bonds. So did McGwire. So did Raffy. Funny - Frank hasn't lost much weight. PK hasn't lost any weight. Puckett hasn't lost any weight. Vlad Guererro hasn't lost any weight. Ichiro, Kent, Soriano, Chavez, Glaus, Delgado, Tejada, etc. none of them decided to lose any weight. But Pudge decided that now was a good time to lose some weight.

Very well played by Hawk and DJ last night. Kudos to them.

I dont know. He had to lose weight. He was always a little too "thick." Roids or not, if wanted to continue to catch, he was going to have to lose weight.

I didn't hear it. Did they hint that stopping the juice could be a reason, or did they play it straight?

I heard it last night, and I honestly don't know. I thought that Hawk sounded sincere in his praise for the weight loss & how good I-Rod looked now, but I just don't know for sure. Can any of you vid-cap/photo experts out there put up side-by-side pictures of I-Rod when he was kicking sCrUBBIE ass back in 2003 and current ones?

Myself, I tend to believe that he looks scrawny cuz he went on the Giambi diet, but I'm just cynical that way.

I'm never going to believe that IRod was on the juice. He was always a "pudge". Not buff or really anything like that. Now I do agree that his timing for his sudden weight loss is a bit off, but still, I don't want to believe that he was ever on roids.

Yeah just ask Benji Molina

Yeah just ask Benji Molina

How many more games has Pudge caught? How much older is he? What a stupid thing to say. Ivan's caught in 3 times as many games in his career. Molina will start to break down and have to lose weight as well.

The joke is that everyone just assumes guys were on roids because freakin Jose Canseco says so.

Hawk and DJ played it totally straight and said he did it because he may have seen how Inge can move behind the plate and wanted to do that. Doubtful since IRod is a perenial gold glover. Anyway, they couldn't say anything about steroids and bringing up the weight was going as far as they could, IMHO. Speaking of which, does anyone think that broadcasters realize that they are MLB.TV and they talk more about the other team because every game is basically a national broadcast? Both the Twins broadcasters and Hawk & DJ spent more time talking about the other side than usual I think. But maybe that's just me. When I heard them talking about weight lose I figured they might want to watch themselves because Tiger fans might be watching the webcast.

Puckett hasn't lost any weight.

Puckett? Kirby? I am confused, how did he end up in there? :?: Sorry if I missed something. He did always kinda looked pregnant or something, though.

On an aside, ESPN classic had the Braves - Pirates NLCS game 7 from '96 (?) on this evening. It was interesting to see not only the skinny Bonds, but skinny players in general. It wasn't that long ago, but it still seemed like light years ago in terms of player size and physique. Maybe it was just the teams, who knows?

This is why it pisses me off that Ivan Rodriguez gets the nickname 'Pudge.' He doesnt deserve it and its a slap in the face to Carlton Fisk.

Carlton Fisk = Pudge
Ivan Rodriguez = Steroids Pudge

Guilt by association.

Obviously, Bonds is sharing more than just this Kodak moment with Ichiro.

Need more proof?

Here, Giambi is clearly slipping Ichiro something from his Balco goody bag.

Still need more proof?

Those aren't Flintstone vitamins Ichiro's getting from Sosa*.

Farmio was suspicious too Yeah but if you saw the game, he's still pretty big and ripped, which makes it kinda scarier.
