Good, short article about the Sox by Tom Gage of the The Detroit News.

I like the beginning:
Nobody mentioned the White Sox.

When favorites in the American League Central were being discussed and debated by the Tigers a week ago -- manager Alan Trammell saying it is Minnesota and Dmitri Young (http://javascript%3Cb%3E%3C/b%3E:%20openlink%28%27http://www.forecaster.ca/detnews/baseball/player.cgi?1297%27%29) claiming it's "us and Cleveland" -- one team noticeably wasn't mentioned.

And it wasn't Kansas City.

Torri Hunter also said that since the Sox got rid of Magglio and Carlos, that he isn't afraid of the Sox anymore. I wonder how he feels about El Duque and Hermanson?

Let these teams ignore us all they want. 8-3 against the Twins and Indians speaks volumes.

How about the mention of Ivan Calderon at the bottom!

I'd love to see video of that catch.

I saw it. It was amazing -- Calderon had both feet on the ledge, his throwing around the fence to support him, gold chains flying everywhere! The game was nationally televised and the fact that Calderon, of all people, (not exactly a gold glover) made it was what made it so outrageous.

I remember seeing that catch live when I was a kid. It was great, being that Calderon was already one of my favorite players.

This is a good article. Doesn't pull the usual punches and isn't gushing with praise either.

I noticed this:

Buehrle has allowed one run in 17 innings at home this season

Man if he can keep that home ERA down like that, this could be a huge year for him. Last year he had one of the best road ERAs in baseball. If he just minimizes the long balls at home, look out.

White Sox are off to surprising start

Surprising to who? To a team whose manager choose to dismiss both the Sox and the Twins just a week into the season?

"Ordonez update
General manager Dave Dombrowski said Magglio Ordonez was examined by doctors in Detroit on Tuesday and will see a hernia specialist in Montreal today. Ordonez won't have to go to Philadelphia for another exam, as the Tigers initially thought.
No surgery date for Ordonez has been announced, but it probably will be after he's examined in Montreal -- which is where the surgery is likely to occur."

Ordonez finally gets his "Prior watch" but had to move to Detroit to do it.

I know I"ve mentioned this more than once, but Calderon made several nice plays throughout his carrer and I'll say them again for those that didn't see my post...

Last day in old Comiskey in the later innings made a nice shoestring catch acrossed his body (I'm pretty sure) to save a run and who knows what else against Seattle...

Another one I saw in person. Bottome of the 9th against the Yanks holding a 1 to 0 lead he and Ventura both made outstanding catches. Ventura a fould ball into the stands and Ivan diving fully stretched. The crowd was awesome that night. I want to say Kittle hit a home run and there was still a cloud of firework smoke in the air.

I'm sure one of our Chicago media apologists will have a perfectly reasonable explanation for why Maggs should deserve a "Prior Watch" in Detroit this year but not in Chicago last year.

Furthermore, if Ozzie Guillen notes the Chicago media's bias publicly, you can expect the paid stooges at the Cubune (Paul Sullivan, for example) to fall all over themselves explaining why it isn't true using ****ed up logic... just like "The Bottom Line" piece written by Sully in today's Cubune.

Contemptible pigs, one and all...

Ordonez finally gets his "Prior watch" but had to move to Detroit to do it.The real "Watch" is going to be when the Tigers start making noises about not paying off on that contract. I figure by the time Ordonez goes on the DL in August with a strained uvula, the **** is going to hit the fan. I'd imagine there must be some pretty specific language in the contract, but without knowing just what it is, there's no way to know how this is going to turn out, except that it's going to get U-G-L-Y.

It is interesting that Mags can't seem to have a surgery within the continental US, isn't it?

In today's paper it said 25 days/games on the DL due to the knee, or ending the season on the DL voids the deal.I think we all knew that, but there must be specific language in the contract dealing with whose doctors make the final determination, etc. Is it possible the Tigers were dumb enough not to protect themselves from these kind of shenanigans? And will they cry "foul" when he makes his 5th trip to the DL for a dislocated pancreas?

Pretty sad when a pretty good article about the White Sox is written, not by a Chicago paper, but by one of our rivals papers.
