"Enough is enough. I am bitterly disappointed as I'm sure all Yankee fans are by the lack of performance by our team," Steinbrenner said in a statement issued immediately after the game.

"It is unbelievable to me that the highest-paid team in baseball would start the season in such a deep funk. They are not playing like true Yankees. They have the talent to win and they are not winning. I expect Joe Torre, his complete coaching staff and the team to turn this around."

Uh oh....

The Devil Dogs coming in after getting swept by Boston so they due to win

Yankees always owned Baltimore, Boston didn't - be very interesting when Boston plays Baltimore now

Torre not in trouble but I don't see the pitching coach surviving

Baltimore hadn't swept New York since 2000 I believe.

Costanza.

Either ways, I'd be pissed off if my $100 million starting rotation sucked ass, too.

To me the biggest mystery is how Kevin Brown stayed in New York after what happened in 2004

Oh the NY tabloids eating it up.

There will be no more "it's only April" talk around the Yankees, no more "it's early." George Steinbrenner made sure of that yesterday. After watching his $200 million team lose its fourth straight game and eighth in 10, The Boss finally exploded. "Enough is enough," Steinbrenner said in an angry statement released immediately after the Yanks finished their 8-4 loss to the Orioles.

BOSS BLOWS UP AFTER 4TH STRAIGHT LOSS BY GEORGE KING

April 18, 2005 -- BALTIMORE - One dozen games into the season George Steinbrenner has had it with his high-priced and underachieving Yankees.

Shortly after yesterday's 8-4 loss to the Orioles in front of a sun-splashed Camden Yards crowd of 47,883 that stretched the Yankees' losing streak to four, The Boss cried uncle. "Enough is enough," Steinbrenner said in a statement. "I am bitterly disappointed, as I am sure all Yankee fans are, by the lack of performance by our team. Mystery solved: they couldn't get anyone to take him without eating virtually all of his salary. Plus, there weren't any available pitchers who were noticeably better bets unless they were ready to hike salary some more (since they couldn't shed any).

They figured since they'd pay for him anyway, they might as well keep him for the potential upside if he was healthy. Not that complicated.

I think Fenway may have been right earlier about Wright sucking. If he sucks, Brown sucks, Pavano is average, Mussina is average, and Randy hasn't woken up yet.... what on earth did you pay for George?

I think the Yanks were stupid not to go after Beltran harder. They need a youth injection for sure, and to replace some of the dead weight in CF. Its nice to see these jerks in so much trouble though. Hopefully things never get sorted out.

A frustrated A-Rod grabbin' some bench after blowing another clutch situation. That's the face of the New Yankees. :bandance:

We all have our feelings about NY but the fact that baseball winds up on the FRONT PAGE of the tabloids so often shows how big baseball is in the Apple.
