Great game by Buehrle and PK. This starting rotation rocks.

I have to admit I'm disappointed by the fan interference. A fan reached over to grab Ichiro's ball as Dye was getting ready to field it. I thought only Cubs fans did this.

Agreed. It's time to ink Buehrle long-term now. He's one of the most dominant pitchers in the AL and there's no reason not to lock him up now. :supernana:

Best part is I got to watch the game live on WGN. Don't get many Sox telecasts down here. Now that I have partial cable (thanks to the high speed cable Internet from Comcast - they haven't put a filter on the cable, so I get WGN, Discovery, TBS, the local networks and a few public access channels) now I get to see more than two or three Sox games per year!

I saw Shingo warming up before the 9th and I was like "*** are you thinking, Ozzie? Put Burly-Mon back in. He's got a 2 hit shutout going and is still under 100 pitches." Glad to see Ozzie didn't out think himself today.

The absolutely incredible aspects of this game:

-Buehrle pitched a no-no to everyone not-named Ichiro as he had all three hits in the game
-The game was the shortest one in years (as far as I know)
-Buehrle struck out 12, the first time he's been in double digits since at least 2001 (I am basing this off of ESPN's game logs so it might be a first). This also might be the most career strikeouts that he's had.
-Buehrle was barely over 100 pitches
-Konerko took sole possesion of first on the major league home run leaderboard

This was absolutely amazing. His performance today is beyond words. Besides the one bad at bat to Torii Hunter, Buehrle's absolutely owned everyone this year. If he continues to pitch the way he has, he's on his way to an incredible season, regardless of what everyone else on the team does this year. Let the whispers begin that he's the next version of this guy. (http://www.baseballreference.com/g/glavito02.shtml)

You're missing my point if you think I was indicting the team. In fact, I'm all for the home run, even of the solo variety. What I was saying was that those days arent over as many have stated. Our offense is going to come from solo Homers some days. It's going to come on bunting and sac flies others. It's going to come from a combination of both almost always. The fact is that this team still is about the homer, whether the solo homer or of the multirun variety.

2-1 wins are fine. 1-0 wins are fine. 15-14 wins are fine. I don't care how we win - as long as we can sustain it.

The truth is we likely can't sustain a 3.78 ERA all season. If we do, then we will have one hell of a year. However, in accepting that, the other end of that truth is that we are equally unlikely to hit .254/.285/.402 all year.

I'd imagine we will soon be hitting a bit better and pitching a bit worse. Hopefully that translates to enough firepower to win the division and make waves in the playoffs.

The unofficial tally on the scoreboard said 105 pitches. This was one of the most amazing pitching performances I've ever seen. I thought Buehrle would have a hard time topping his opening day start, but he did today. Just looking at my scorecard...12 strikeouts...2 in the 2nd, 3 in the 4th, 2 in the 5th, 1 in the 6th, 2 in the 8th, and 2 in the 9th. Buehrle seemed to get stronger as the game went on.

Buehrle is the best pitcher in Chicago, no questions asked. Yes, sign him up. I don't care what happened with McDowell or Fernandez or even Alvarez after they left. Buehrle is an anchor to this team...he's the real deal. I don't want him in a Cardinals uniform in 2 years.

I've attended two White Sox games so far this year, and neither has lasted two hours. Buehrle was awesome today, and I'm glad the WSI intelligencia failed in its attempts to trade Konerko last offseason.

The Sox were 14-5 with me in attendance last year, and they are 2-0 so far this year. If I went to every game, we'd win the pennant. Still waiting for JR to offer me free season tickets. Maybe I should e-mail Brooks. :D:

Some other notes from the game:

The have switched back to using "Thunderstruck" for the opening player introductions, which I believe was Van Halen on Opening Day.

Also, Gene Honda is leaving less time for applause in between reading the player's names. It's like a shotgun roll call. I have a feeling they did this so that no player can get booed if he's in a slump. Honda left less than a second between each guy's name.

The park looked beautiful today.

Take the Green Line home when your done instead of the Red Line. This is the best-kept secret in Chicago.

The chick working the counter in the Hat Shop has no idea what the difference is between "high crown" and "low profile". Good job

I still think if you want to really watch the game and not be annoyed by annoying people, the top 10-15 rows right behind home plate in the upper deck are the best seats in the house.... So much better than sitting in row 25 down the first or third base lines towards the corner.

As I found out today, though, you can't get lower deck premiums. The ticket agent originally punched up a ticket for me right behind home plate, maybe 25 rows up, for $41. I then gave him the coupon...and he said it wasn't valid on lower deck premiums. It's hard to complain when you can get into the park for $7.50, so I didn't press the issue.

Also want to give kudos to the young lady who gave me two calendars upon entering the park instead of one. I asked nicely, and she said, "Take another one."

Thanks Gene! Eight of us went, including four kids (three of whom had never been to a game). We sat in the sun by the left-field foul pole. I actually got to watch one of Shingo's frisbees in the pen up close when he was warming up in the 9th. Pretty cool. Perfect length of a game with four antsy little ones in the hot sun, though.

Might have been Wilson Alvarez, but that's just another wild guess.

It's a good one. He got 12 guys 3 times, once in 1996 and twice in 1997.

As far as historic Sox left handed strikeout artists, Juan Pizarro, he of the scowl and moodiness to reporters, fanned either 13 or 14 in a game five times between 1961 and 1965.

He was an enigma off the field but on it, he absolutely hated enemy batters. He probably threw the hardest of any of the great Sox pitchers of the 1960's. He had a 19 win season, made the All Star team and also tossed a one hitter in his six years with the team. Very good hitter to boot.

Thanks for looking that up! Buehrle's game was a lot better than any of those, but he definitely was the last guy to do it.

There isn't much more I can add about Buehrle's magnificent performance that hasn't already been said,so I will focus on one not so important detail:About 2/3's of the way into the game I was reminded of a thread from not so long ago harping on the dreaded wave. There was this guy in section 111 that looked like Randy Jackson(American Idol)from behind who tried in vain to get the wave started. His buddies in that section seemed pretty supportive, but each attempt would die before it reached center field. I guess he felt his money was better spent making a fool of himself instead of watching one of the best pitching performances of the year.

elrod, I think you might have been sitting directly in front of me! (*) Section 154, Row 7?

Did Man Soo Lee wave your kids over to the edge of the bullpen to have their picture taken with him? That was awesome - I never realized what a cool guy he is. He also grabbed a t-shirt from the people launching them into the crowd, and gave it to a kid who was leaning over the bullpen railing.

* If so, I was the guy who said Everett was hitless yesterday, and you said he'd singled in the 1st inning. FWIW, we're both wrong - he singled in the fifth!

I saw this Randy Jackson dude (yo dawg) also, how annoying can one person be. I think I heard him ask someone why Carlos Lee wasn't in the line-up. Must be someone from white sox interactive I bet. There isn't much more I can add about Buehrle's magnificent performance that hasn't already been said,so I will focus on one not so important detail:About 2/3's of the way into the game I was reminded of a thread from not so long ago harping on the dreaded wave. What a game by Mark! I'm so pissed that i didnt realize i didnt start him in my fantasy league until the game started.

I did the same thing. not only that, but my WHIP is .02 above the guy I'm playing. I'm pretty sure Mark's .4ish WHIP today would have taken care of that. grrrrr

It's already been said but hats off to Mark Buehrle on one of the best games I have ever seen pitched. The guy was brilliant and if not for an equally brilliant Ichiro he would have had a no-no

All we can do is win the games we play. You're going to give yourself an ulcer if you preoccupy yourself with the twins when we're not playing them.

About 2/3's of the way into the game I was reminded of a thread from not so long ago harping on the dreaded wave.

You know, there was another thread a few days ago talking about throwing back homeruns, and after logging off, I thought, "That doesn't bug me as much as the stupid ass wave."

I now live in Los Angeles, and you can't go to a Dodger game without seeing the crowd dive for beach balls and get more excited than with the wave.

Mark pitched a beautiful game tonight. The Sox have their best opening record since 82. It was the fastest game in Mariners History. If it weren't for Ichiro.... well, it was great.

It's April, and I feel warmer than any summer.
