While that is a nice picture, the Jerry Manuel we all know and love never played for the Cubs (http://www.baseball-reference.com/m/manueje01.shtml).

It looks like a minor league or ST photograph, though. Maybe he spent some time in their camp.

I was thinking ST, cause the link he provided says he was traded to them in 83, but his last game played was in 82

There we go. When I found the image, I wasn't sure where it come from, but that is defintely "The Tinkerer" in the photo.

That's funny. And it makes you think. Take a look around the league folks...the next crappy utility infielder you see, could be your crappy manager in 20 years... :o:

I clearly said utility. If I meant gold glove defender and inspirational leader, I'd have said so.

Let's not forget

You can see Manuel pretty frequently on ESPN Classic, when they replay the 1976 Tigers-Yankees game where Mark Fidrych pitched. Manuel went in as a sub late in the game, kind of gives me the creeps seeing him.

Anyone ever see Brewster's Millions? Features Richard Pryor walking around in a cubs jersey. Just made the connection...uncanny!
