Haeger with a nice start for W-S (6 IP, 2 R, 6 H, 1 BB, 5 K). Castro very good in relief (2 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 1 BB, 3 K). Wasserman followed with one perfect inning. Schnurstein 2-for-5 with a 2B and run scored. Nanita, Valido, and Amador with 1 hit apiece. Amador with his 3rd SB on the season; Valido with his 1st. Huge game by the other Carlos Lee.

Gio Gonzalez kicking some serious tail for Kanny. Through 5 innings, he has 9 K and has given up only 1 hit and 0 BB. (If he keeps his K/9 around 15, I suspect Gio will see a promotion before long. That's absolutely sick.) The only scoring so far is a 2-run HR by Josh Hansen, who is playing RF.

This is the front end of a DH, will only be 7 innings long. Gio now has 10 K's through 6IP (1H, 0 BB), Kanny still up 2-0.

Gio finished strong last year, easily could have started in W-S, but the way the rotations fell out, no reason to rush him. Wouldn't be surprised to see him up in W-S by the middle of May at this rate. 3 or 4 more starts in a row like this and they have to find a way to move him up...

Game 1 now final, Kany wins 4-0.
Gio's line: 6 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 10 K.
Gio's season stats: 2-0, 0.00 ERA, 11 IP, 18 K.

To emphasize his total domination, he's the breakdown of today's start:
1st Inning - strikes out the side in order
2nd Inning - two strike outs, a ground out, and a single
3rd Inning - strikes out the side in order again
4th Inning - three fly outs
5th Inning - strike out followed by two ground outs
6th Inning - two ground outs followed by the 10th K
Like I said . . . absolutely sick.

Incidently, Zaleski pitched a perfect 7th. Ricks scored twice after reaching on a walk and an error. Hansen finished 2-for-3, and Hernandez and De Los Santos were both 1-for-3.

Another great game for Gio! :bandance:

Meanwhile WS won 6-2. Charles Haeger with the win. Carlos Lee 3-3 including a homer. Birmingham and Charlotte were rained out.

Edit. Dumb me! I didn't notice Maurice already mentioned the WS game...oh well.
