NEW YORK -- Only a half-century old, it certainly doesn't have the provenance of a medieval tapestry. But it IS a one-of-a-kind, and to millions of baseball fanatics it's probably more valuable.

The 1955 World Series championship banner captured by the Brooklyn Dodgers _ the only one the team ever won _ was unveiled Wednesday following a $16,000 restoration by experts at the Textile Conservation Laboratory at the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine.

I was flipping through the Newsday and saw this. Good to hear that this could have been restored.

"That $16k was much better spent on my favorite team's only WS banner than Magglio's knee!"
