I figure we could use a thread just for Opening Day talk. I only have one thing to say right now.....Ivan Rodriguez is a midget! Seriously, you people have to see him. He is skinny as hell. My jaw dropped when I saw him batting. I have no doubt he was juicing. He looks like half his former self. I don't know what else to say to get this point across. You just have to see it for yourself. Wow. :o:

BTW, Tigers up 3-0 on a solo shot by Young and a 2-run shot by Inge.

Dmitri Young just went deep again. He's 2-2 with 2 HR and 3 RBI in his first two AB's of the season...:o:

5-0 Tigers in the bottom of the 3rd.

There is always a player who has a monster first day (or week).

Didn't a guy from the Pirates last year have like 5 homeruns in the first week?

The Tigers STILL don't scare me...they started off hot last year.

Edit - Magglio is 0-2 with a K

I was just thinking last night that Young is probably going to be a big force that everyone is forgetting about because of the other hitters, but this club is almost exactly like our old Sox clubs: great power lineup, iffy SP, except they may have a better bullpen, but we used to have Foulke, Howry, Wunsch, etc who were all pretty good. Also, just like the Sox from years ago, they are being picked by some to take the division, I'm not that worried though, we've already seen that it doesn't work here.

He's playing. He's 0-2 so far. Bonderman is pitching well.

I'm probably going to say this about 200 times during the season, so I'll say it for the first time here: I LOVE MLB Extra Innings!

Also, the Tigers have some brutal commercials. :tsk:

i mean, seriously- irod looks like a wet cat this year.

Yes, I am so happy for the free preview! I can't take the ESPN telecasts. LOL, from having the package in the past, I think the Pirates have some of the first announcers, won't be watching Brewers/Pirates, although Ben Sheets is on my fantasy team...

Magglio is still broken. I envision the Buyout Cause being envoked on his contract therefore causing a stay of execution for dealin' dave dumbrowski.

I wouldn't get too wrapped up in those 5 runs.. they were off Josie Lima.

If Lima is your day 1 Starter, look out!!!!

Kaz Matsui led off the game with a home run for the Mets, just as he did last season. This game marks the return of Jerry "The Tinkerer" Manuel to the big leagues.

Can someone please get Jeff Daniels out of the Tigers broadcast booth? It's Opening Day for cryin' out loud. He's been in their damn booth for an inning and a half already. You can't find something else to discuss on Opening Day so you have to drag Jeff Daniels into the booth to discuss Dumb and Dumber? Geez...

5-1 Tigers now as DeJesus drives in a run.

Richie Sexson!!!!! His first pitch as a Mariner he jacks for a 3-run bomb. Radke just screwed up a potential double play ball with Ichiro running.

3-0 Mariners in the bottom of the 1st.

Brad Radke is simply not going to be as good this year as he was last year and considering they don't have a great offense, that's really going to hurt them.

Baltimore with only 7 hits but 4 runs.

Oakland's 0 runs on 8 hits is pretty bad, but Baltimore has also drawn 3 walks and there have been 2 Oakland errors.

Chavez also walked in the 3rd putting two runners on for Durazo, who promptly stranded them. The errors haven't figured into the scoring.

Can't say the same for Palmiero's sac fly or Oakland's failure to advance the leadoff runner in the 7th inning.

Javy Vazquez leaves the game after 1 2/3 INN, having allowed 10 hits (including a 2B by the opposing pitcher) and 7 ER (so far).

Edit: You can close the book on Vazquez. He has a 37.80 ERA through his first start in 2005.

Moyer with a one-hit shutout and 3 Ks through 3 IP. The old man might have a bit left in the tank after all. Keep it up!

I laugh when i see all these inter conference games and such and then u got a horrid mismatch in arizona vs the scrubs.

I guess mlb wants to rake in more money and give the cubs every chance to suceed cuz boston did it last year. Im gonna vomit when i see cubs get the headline cuz of their "struggles" and they can still score when buehrle just threw a gem.

Damn, my adopted NL team (the Padres) just blew a 2-run lead in the 9th. As I type this Clint Barmes just hit a 2-run HR to end the game. This after Aaron Miles had his 5th hit of the day, a game-tying single. Wow.

And I have Barmes on my bench in the WSI H2H league. That hurts twice.:(:

Yeesh! To think they almost moved the White Sox down there...

Any team that cant at least come close to selling out on opening day needs to take a serious look at moving the franchise to a different city.

That was real fun, but a little disappointing that there are no night games! Anyone still want to do Vasquez for JG? Thanks to DBack relief pitching, I am now getting creamed in my H2H public fantasy league (I had Aquino, the supposed closer). So much for free burgers for Wills and the DRay fans. Since not everyone opened yet, what is with the Cardinals, Mulder is their #3? Maybe it's just the way it fell after ST starts.

Valdez started at short because of injuries to the other two Seattle shortstops (one is their top triple A guy who just broke a bone in his thumb...)

In regards to the Cubs I thought I read somewhere (Tribune?) where their stretch drive schedule is very tough this year...no more September cake walks against the Reds and Pirates.

Normally there would be some night games. But the NCAA title game is on.

Why is this any different though? There have been night games in previous years during the NCAA Tourney Championship game.

After rewatching the Mets/Reds highlights, it reminds me of our Opening Day implosion last year.
