I'm not sure when the polls open, but they close at 10 p.m. Monday. Vote early and often, even while watching the Illini beat UNC. Frank's up against that sCrUB-loving Billy Corgan, and we can't let him down now!

I did my duty as a part of SOX ARMY. Voted for Frank Thomas, and whoever was up against Cubbie lover Bill Murray. :D:

Bill Murray has to be the biggest bandwagon jumper I have ever seen, first the cubs and now the Illini come on!

Some of you may be uneasy with the "vote early and often" philosophy. I myself have struggled with it, thinking that even if Frank should win, it will be a hollow victory. But I have come to a realization: if what the Cubune is really asking here is "Who is the most beloved Chicago public figure?", then what we're doing is right on the money. I think we're all in agreement that the sCrUBS have the larger fan base, and that more people in Chicago recognize Bill Murray than Frank Thomas. But the few of us who do love the Sox love them more collectively than all of "Cub Nation" combined cares about their team. So why shouldn't we vote in proportion to our devotion? Though it may come from fewer people, the love and appreciation we have for Frank will far outmeasure anything they can muster for the remaining Cub-lovers in the tourney.

Who in the world is the die hard Billy Corgan fan? Wasn't that like ten years ago when he was popular? Looks like it is going to be a battle. I voted my share of times so far.

It's more like an anti-Frank/Sox vote is my guess. So far we've withstood a couple of fierce pushes. Whew, what a battle.

Frank's putting a little distance between them now (100 votes or so), but I think it's going to be an all-day battle. Don't forget to keep checking in during the Sox and Illini games!

I agree, I'm voting as much as I can now, but I have class to go to so hopefully when I get home we'll have a White Sox winner!

The news from the front lines is not good, my friends. There is a strong anti-Sox presence on that site today (these can't all be Corgan fans - he was done like five years ago), and the Cub-lover is pulling away from Frank. We need to stop revelling in the Opening Day victory, stop worrying about the Illini tonight, stop eating your dinner, and come to Frank's aid. Never give up! Never surrender! Help Big Frank smash that Pumpkin!

Frank's way down now, 1300 votes. It looks like the Sheahan people are stuffing the box, and putting Corgan down instead of Frank, maybe to get rid of us. It'd be a smart move on their part.

Your scenario sounds a lot more plausible than A) Billy Corgan still has that many fans, or B) Cubs fans care enough to stuff the box against Frank.

This is getting ridiculous - Corgan currently is leading by almost 2400 votes, and is increasing the lead at a 20 to 1 clip. I guess we'll have to settle for having vanquished all the sCrUBS and landing our guys in the final two slots of the athletes bracket. It still feels like a failure of our mission though. I guess you can't fight City Hall.

There's still two hours left, enough time for a miracle comeback (if the Sheahan-iacs build a comfortable enough lead and back off). But it's going to require a concerted effort by all of us, and with the Illini tipping off in 30 minutes, I don't see that happening :(: .

Maybe Frank is still in play.

Armed with photos of actor Bill Murray, White Sox player Frank Thomas, Cook County Sheriff Michael Sheahan and singer Billy Corgan, we stopped 20 people in the Loop on Monday and asked them to identify the four. . . . Murray and Thomas were the most recognizable of the four, no surprise. They tied with 17 people identifying them correctly. Eleven people were able to identify Corgan . . . . In last place was Sheahan. Just five people accurately named the county sheriff, including two county employees, a state employee who described herself as politically active and one man who knew him because he used to be a security guard at the athletic club where Sheahan worked out. . . . Half of those asked didn't even bother to hazard a guess. Which brings us to this question: If so few people can pick Sheahan out of a lineup, how the heck did he land in the Final Four?

RedEye's technical experts detected some suspicious voting patterns, specifically in the Politicians bracket. The third-round showdown between Sheahan and Gov. Blagojevich generated three times the activity of any other matchup, and a subsequent analysis of Internet-provider addresses seemed to point to a few concentrated voting blocs. As a result, the much-anticipated championship showdown-originally scheduled for Tuesday-has been postponed to determine if unfair play may have swayed the results. The judges reserve the right to disqualify any contestant for any reason because, if you haven't guessed by now, we're pretty much making this up as we go along.

It looks like we're still "under the radar." I guess they didn't talk with Knue.

Who do you think best represents our city--its attitude, its personality, its self-image? Who is most worthy of our admiration and adoration?
Well, CLEARLY Michael Sheahan deserves to be the winner of this title.

Armed with photos of actor Bill Murray, White Sox player Frank Thomas, Cook County Sheriff Michael Sheahan and singer Billy Corgan, we stopped 20 people in the Loop on Monday and asked them to identify the four...Murray and Thomas were the most recognizable of the four, no surprise. To be fair, the "Sheahan-iacs" just used the same tactics to push Corgan ahead of Frank that we used to eliminate Mark Prior (I can think of better uses of time than mass voting for Donovan McNabb in a web poll). Our only consolation is that Sheahan was "raised on the far South Side," so there's a good chance he's a Sox fan. Anybody know for sure?
