I heard so much of Carl getting in better shape and that he looked a lot better this year, but from the few times I've seen him in ST he looks about the same as last year. Glad he's having a good spring. Hope he can keep it up...

Really? I have noticed considerable difference in Carl's weight. He really looks a lot skinnier to me.

"losing weight" isn't a fair term to use, especially in athletes. If you gain muscle and drop body fat, you're most likely going to gain weight.

Nope, it's actually the lead singer from Queensryche.... or is it the lead singer of Extreme (craptacular band)?

Not really. Yes, muscle is denser than fat tissue, but it's also harder to add. It's easy to put on weight with fat and being 20 pounds overweight with fat tissue doesn't really make one "fat" in the classic sense especially on a person who is 6'3" 195 to begin. Dropping the 20 pounds of fat is a LOT easier than adding 25 pounds of muscle.

To answer the orignal question Yes. Both Williams and Ozzie told him to come to camp in shape. There was an implication if Carl didn't he could get traded or simply cut.

Back to Carl, he's in a contract year, so based on history, you'll see a better performance than last year. FWIW, I think he's in a little better shape. The good thing, is he's our 4th outfielder / backup DH. He's certainly not the key component of the team. I'm more concerned about Contreras and Pods.
