Whoa. Can't believe this hasn't been posted. I hope Ozzie tests ok.

Tony Blair had this done last year, and was back to running the country in only a few days.

So, hopefully Ozzie will be absolutely fine, as I'd guess being PM ought to be more stressful job than running a Major League Baseball team.

Then again, it also would mean that thepatient has immediate priority access to the best specialist in the country, and at no personal expense...

Hmm, where's Beckett? He may be able to clear up exactly how routine the procedure is, and it's general success %.

Get Well Soon Ozzie.

From the article it looks like a fairly safe procedure and more of a "just to be safe thing." He's only 41 and still looks to be in pretty good shape so here's hoping he's fine.

Yeah, it was just sort of surprising to see that headline since we, or at least I, had no idea he was scheduled for this.

I heard on the radio that the procedure was scheduled two weeks ago to coincide with the off day tomorrow, so it can't be THAT serious. In any case, get well soon Ozzie!

My question is why the procedure? Was he symptomatic i.e. chest pains or difficulty breathing? Maybe his family history has a tendancy toward heart problems. I'm a paramedic and I can say this is not routine. At only 41, I could see a stress test, as part of a thorough yearly physical exam. I would think Ozzie was experiencing some 'out of the ordinary' symptom to lead them to this. Maybe a doctor could refute me but I'm kind of worried about him.

According to Hawk and DJ, KW told them that Ozzie is fine and all tests were negative. I was getting a little worried by the way they were talking about it

Being in the oral/maxillofacial surgery department, I don't get much rotation work in cardiac care, but we do have an internal medicine rotation. We also have to do a lot of heart study for our anesthesia courses. Ozzie has probably experienced a little breathing trouble or maybe a murmur during his physicals. He may also have a family history of cardiovascular disease. With those symptoms plus a family history, it would actually be wise to perform a cardiac cath. This procedure is a good way to get an internal view of what is going on with his heart and is great to diagnose the strength of heart muscles and the integrity of arteries. THis isn't a procedure that is extremely alarming. He'll be fine. It's actually a good thing that he's getting some "safe side" diagnostic work done.

FWIW - Levineline reported on MJ&H that Ozzie had something crop up in a stress test that they wanted to check out, but that he came through the procedure with flying colors, nothing wrong.

Hey, you'd have something crop up in a stress test too if you had to pitch Jose Contreras every 5th day.

The heart's a long way from the foot, so I don't have much to add here. There are inherent risks with any procedure, but for the most part it is a routine procedure (unless they're doing it on me :redneck).

Sounds like he did fine just from reading this thread. Good to hear.
