Pirates announced the retirement of RHP Todd Ritchie.
Still dealing with some soreness in his surgically repaired shoulder, the 33-year-old Ritchie ended his comeback bid. Maybe he'll give it another try next spring. If not, he finishes his career 43-54 with a 4.71 ERA in 120 starts and 64 relief appearances.

That's a shame. Sure, he sucked for us and people to this day still think we gave up a lot for him. But I wished him the best even after he left. He always seemed like a good guy.

Now to the real question. What cap does he wear into the HOF? :D:

Hindsight is 20/20. Fogg could have been a decent 5th starter over the past 3 years....maybe. But there's no point in crying about it anymore. It just didn't work out.

On behalf of Pittsburgh, all I can say is:

In the words of the fabulous Pat Benatar, "It's a little too little, it's a little too late."

Thank you and good night.:gulp:

And had Fogg been in the #5 spot we could have had at least 5-6 wins over a season and that might have been enough to....

I thought he retired when he got traded to the sox, he sure pitched like he was done.

Especially in 2003. I feel your pain, trust me....I still think that team was loaded enough to win it all if we just could have gotten into the playoffs.

I was thinking 2003 when I typed that too. This team now I feel the same way about though, IF we can stay healthy.

Fogg and Wells haven't exactly set the world on fire. Everyone on this board seemed to be fed up with Kip Wells by the time he was traded and Josh Fogg never really got a look at the majors with us. I had more hope for Ritchie and Danny Wright that year that I would have with Wells and Fogg. Obviously the latter two aren't pitching in the majors right now, but hindsight is 20/20. Would you rather have Wells or Fogg now than Garcia, Contreras, or El Duque? Didn't think so.

What upset me most about the trade is that the Sox overpaid so much to get him.

I'll never forget at Soxfest that season when one of the higher ups (Hahn or KW) compared Ritchie to Lieber and how a change of scenery was going to make him a big winner.

Whoops.

This thread scared me, I glanced at it real fast and thought it said "Todd Richie returns".
