The guy looks like he can flat out hit. Ozzie said he is almost ready.

I have to admit a little bias here since he is from Iowa.

Maybe in September.

I don't see any reason why the Sox would have to call him up with the plethora of advanced OF prospects and major leaguers they have. Anderson, Timo, Rowand, Dye, Carl, Pods, Borch... All those guys are ahead of Sweeney. That said, most of those guys are on 2-year contracts or less. Sweeney in 2006? Maybe, but we'll see. He should get a full season in AA this year.

Yeah, there's really no room for him on this team. He is probably also behind Anderson in regards to getting a shot at the big league level.

I would just as soon see Sweeny get more ab's in the minors for now.

I'd hope not....otherwise the season will have taken a drastic turn.

I don't really see why we would. We have our outfield pretty much set in stone and have a legitimate backup in Timo, and Carl if you include him. Let Ryan get his ABs in the minors. Bring him up whne he is ready to contribute. I don't think that time is now.

I can't really see him getting regular at bats until late 2006. He needs a lot more seasoning in the minor leagues from what I've heard and seen about him. Anderson is definitely more ready to make an impact in 2005, and I dont think the team should be promoting him before September.

Agreed. I think the idea is that we don't need to call up these prospects if things play out perfectly.

Right. There's no reason to bring him up earlier in the year to be a 5th or 6th outfielder. In addition to Pods/Rowand/Dye, you'll still have Everett, Timo, and maybe Borchard in front of him. Give him one more year in the minors.

I'm excited about Sweeney and Fields for maybe next year though.
