LAKELAND, Fla. (AP) -- Dmitri Young (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/5699/) violently collided with catcher John Flaherty (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/4820/) on a play at the plate, a startling sight during a spring training game.

Young left the game to get five stitches on his ear. After returning to the dugout, he said the blood was worth it because the aggressive play was meant to convey how the Detroit Tigers (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/teams/det/) intend to play this season. ``We're the Tigers -- not the kittens,'' Young said during Saturday's 9-8 win over the New York Yankees (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/teams/nyy/)

I don't know if you consider this agressive or foul play in spring training.

Who'd ever mistake Dmitri Young for a big ole kitten? :?:

He's been super-sized into a Tiger long ago. :D:

When the Tigers play in Chicago at the end of April, someone should remember to give Magglio Ordonez his ball of string.

Man, every one of the SOX newcomers had better have the same attitude
and playing Above Expectations. Dye cannot hit .250, and the same
goes with El Duque.

Man, if El Duque hits .250 in interleague I'll be ecstatic!

How's is that foul play? Flaherty was presumably in the way blocking the plate...is Dmitri supposed to tippy-toe around him?

I wish the sox would have showed half that heart adn intensity last season, after a CERTAIN incident.

.250. Can he play 3rd base?

This is the old time hard nosed baseball that used to be the norm. Now, it seems like every MLB player is afraid to rock the boat. They worry more about their, "career", than they do about the game. I hope the Sox catch a touch of this kind of attitude.

In ST though, the big thing about ST is tuning up and not getting hurt. He could've easily gotten himself hurt (especially him) going hard into home. I'm not saying to tippytoe, but to then act like you're a tough guy in ST, I think it's stupid

Tell that to the catcher Pete Rose inverted during the All-Star game.
And that was before the All-Star game meant something.

OWNED! Now that's insult (Flaherty hung on to the ball) to injury (Dmitri's stiches). That's hilarious that it was Dmitri and not Flaherty who got the stiches.

Great picture Shorty :D:

The real point is that Young was out and the Tigers still suck.

Dye hit .265 last year and has an overall average of .272. Thats not all that bad with this squad.

After seeing the play on TV, that guy has "morphed" himself into Cecil Fielder's body...

But Pete Rose probably had money on the game.

That was a joke.
