This is great for him and the fans and much deserved. I wonder if this will help heal old wounds and get him back involved with the White Sox? I hope so!

The White Sox are planning to honor Hall of Fame catcher Carlton Fisk with a statue that will be placed at U.S. Cellular Field this summer.

Fisk, inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2000, played 24 seasons—11 with the Boston Red Sox and 13 with the White Sox. He had a .269 career batting average and 376 home runs. He was the American League rookie of the year in 1972 and an 11-time All-Star.

Maybe he will have a "blank" hat on - no team logo.

I wonder it will be by Minnie?

My guess is yes. I think the Sox goal is to make that area in left center a Statuary Hall of sorts, kinda like what the Tigers did on the councourse at Comerica.

Excellent news! The Minnie Minoso statue is great, and Carlton Fisk is a great choice to be the next one to get a statue!

Who do you think they will unveil a statue of next year? Reinsdorf and Einhorn?

Great news. I'd like to see it on the concourse behind homeplate, but the left center area is fine.

Any word on when the new statue will be unveiled?

Anybody know what it will look like, Fis in full gear with his mask pushed on top of his helmet? That would be pretty sweet. Congrats to Fisk. Great to hear about this.

I think that they'll have him diving for a ball in left field, just to make sure that he has absolutely NOTHING to do with the team in the future!

This is way past overdue. We all knew it, yet the chairman waits until now. Is he finally admitting the errors of his ways? He should have been on Ozzie's staff.

And well deserved. Kudos to the organization for realizing this and taking steps to make it happen.

Congrats to Pudge

He really is one of the few players that belong to 2 teams on an equal basis.

What has always fascinated me is that even though he takes pride in being a New Englander, like Ray Leonard he relocated to Chicago and never looked backed.

That's a good one, but I vote for Fisk standing with his mask in his hand down around his knees just glaring out to the outfield. That will also remind me of my favorite play by him, when he tagged two guys out at home on one play!!!

:gulp: I'd like the statue to be of Fisk sitting at his locker after a game drinking a beer in the clubhouse:gulp:

This is great news. Fisk is well deserving of this and I hope it can mend the fences between him and the organization. Pudge was certainly the greatest catcher I've ever seen play.

I personally hope the statue is outside the ballpark. Perhaps in the grassy area right near 35th and Wentworth so all the people who take the L to the games will walk past it and it would also be the first thing the cars that exit at 35th will see. Just a thought.

They should put the statue on the pitchers mound where he spent most of his career... :D:

Or they should make the statue of the time he went off on Dion Sanders!

I can't wait to hear what sort of problem Mariotti will have with this statue, just like he did with that one of the guy who invented this team.

This statue does nothing for the casual fan! Instead, why didn't JR empty his deep pockets to acquire Randy Johnson or another premier free agent starter? I suppose it's a moot point, considering how nobody will be around to see the statue--or this team--anyway.

I'd like to see the statue in the park where people won't be able to vandalize it.

Yes, like Cubs fans. Some of whom actually believed that Jody Davis was a better catcher.

With all due respect to the great contributions of Charles Comiskey and Minnie Minoso,it is very cool to see someone I had the pleasure of watching and one of my absolute favorites in Carlton Fisk.I agree with others that they need to honor Fox and Aparicio soon too...and Billy Pierce. Did they announce when the unveiling of Pudge's statue will be??

I think a Frank statue this year, while he's still on the team could go a long way. I've not seen anything on here that doesn't say we as fans don't want him to hang it up in the black pinstripes. Give him the statue, let him retire as one of the few players(ALA Barry Larkin) who played his whole career for one team....then he gets to the HoF. Legitimately, dot "juiced".

does anyone else find it funny that while he's doffing his cap with his right hand ... he's giving us the finger with his left?
he always did have that love/hate thing going on.

Retiring Baine's number while he was active was really weird. Let's wait until Frank retires, but I fully agree with your sentiment. Frank is great.
