I just moved back to chicago from college and I just got my opening day tickets today, anyone know of some good pre/post game spots near the cell to have a few beers at?

Jimbo's....there's a place at 38th and Union that I love but I can't think of the name of it. There are several places around to have a drink, but just buy a case of beer and a mini-grill and tailgate. That's my plan, anyway

I'm planning on tailgating as well. Jimbo's probably post-game.

I am probably goign to be taking the train to the game, can you just buy some booze and tailgate anyhow?

When it gets a little closer to opening day I am sure that there will be a group from this website that announces tailgate plans, they do it every year.

We usually go to Shinnick's (sp?), which is at 38th just a few blocks East of Halsted - but on Opening Day, it's packed - if you don't get there early, you end up standing on the side walk outside of the bar. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, unless it's 41 degrees and drizzling, like it often is on Opening Day.

That's the bar I couldn't recall the name of. Classic southside bar.

My bar is Catchers on 35th just west of Halsted.

I'm a Redwood Lounge guy myself. Normal and 33rd.

That's where Schu used to drown his sorrows back in the 90s.

A hot spot to go to is Cobblestones on the corner of 38th & Parnell - always packed.

IIRC the Redwood is on the SW corner of 32nd and Wallace. First base is on 32nd and Normal. If you go to Jimbos before the game, get there wayyy before or you'll be out on the sidewalk.

You're right. My bad...I'm usually in the bag by the time I get there.

I'd rather sit outside at Jimbo's, much less crowded and smoky.

I usually go to Schaller's Pump. I believe it is a few blocks west on 37th. About a 10 minute walk from the tacks.
