Remember Wayne Nordhagen, the Sox' catcher or DH for several years in the late 70s? I remember watching a game where he pitched an inning, I think it was some game where the Sox were being blown out of the water. He struck out two men, and gave up two triples.

My question is: Did he pitch more than just that one time? I was looking at "White Sox 1979" on Baseball Library.com, and they listed Wayne as having a 0-0 record, with a 9.00 ERA, but they didn't tell how many appearances he made. Is there a better online source for stats? I guess I'm just in a mood for old Sox stats on this fine Friday evening.

C-Dawg,
I just checked this out on Baseball Almanac- it looks like pitched in two games during his career, both in 1979. Also mentions it in the 1980 media guide...

1979 Wayne Nirdhagen's pitching line:

No wins or loses in two games. Two innings pitched. Walked one, gave up two hits, one of which left the park, struckout two, with an era of 9. I got that from the baseball encyclopedia.

and that's still better than last year's fifth starter! :anon:

Cool, guys, thanks! I think I found a new site there to spend more time on line with! Baseball Library.com is OK but many things are left out.
