Uh, what was the reason for mentioning Aaron Rowand in this sentence, in this article? :?:

Canseco and Guillen were teammates with the Devil Rays in 2000, while players such as Aaron Rowand joined Canseco as part of the White Sox in 2001.

The mention of Rowand serves NO purpose in the sentence or the story. His mentioning of Rowand doesn't lead into or follow anything about Aaron Rowand. If this were the Cubune, I'd be certain that it was mentioned because they're trying to libel the Sox and one of their good young players. But this was written by Scott Merkin at whitesox.com. I'm still suspicious.

I hope it was just an editing error, and not because the writer thinks Jose introduced Aaron to steroids...

How many current Sox players were actually around in 2001 anyway?

Rowand, Thomas, Konerko, Crede, Burly, ???

It was Rowand's first year in the majors. So I guess he's really the only one that "joined" the Sox that year that's still around...

maybe he was mentioned because he was there in 2001 and was one of the few position players actually in Tucson yesterday that could have been talked to or mentioned...

I think he's a pretty good guy so I don't think he intended any "reading between the lines" as it regards Aaron.

I'm wondering if he got some comments from Aaron and either didn't put them into the article or they got edited out.

Then that line make a little more sense.

I was confused by this line too. My thought was that Rowand was mentioned because he is one of the few position players who have already shown up for spring training. HE could easily have been one of the "various players" who "answered numerous questions" about the issue at hand. I would bet that an earlier draft of the article included a comment from Rowand about Canseco or 'roids and that the paragraph about Canseco's relationships with Ozzie, Walker, and Rowand was included in the article to provide background information about those who were quoted in the article. That's just my guess, though.

I thought this too but...

on Comcast Sports Net lastnight, the opening segment on Sportsnight was about Sox/Cubs camps... and every single time they were discussing Conseco/Roids/etc, they showed footage of ARow running sprints.

I guess that because he is built like a "bricks hit house" and had a breakthrough year, he is juiced.
