Under one of numerous plans discussed, the Minnesota Twins and Montreal Expos would be eliminated, according to two sources. But every scenario under serious discussion has a baseball team in South Florida next season -- and the most likely scenario would have the Marlins remaining in South Florida under the ownership of Henry.
Buying the Angels would benefit Henry, who has been unable to secure a new stadium in South Florida, and also appeal to Loria, whose Expos draw sparse crowds.
But the chance of that happening is thought to be less than 50 percent because several parties would have to agree to financial terms, and baseball would need to eliminate two teams, which likely would meet with opposition.
