Apparently his dog "Sage" woke him up at 1 AM after barking at a coyote. KW couldn't get back to sleep so he spent the night reviewing every MLB team's roster because it may pay off with a trade in July.

KW ain't the sharpest pencil in the proverbial geek's shirt pocket, but he is passionate about being a GM and the challenges it presents. I'll give him that.

The only disturbing thing about the story: Isn't "Sage" what a hippie would name his dog?

Who can we get from Tampa Bay?

Here's the article and an excerpt from it:

"GMs know busy time right around the corner"
http://www.usatoday.com/sports/baseball/2005-02-09-gm-lull_x.htm
A couple of nights ago in Tucson, general manager Kenny Williams' sleep was disturbed at 1 a.m. when his dog, Sage, was barking at a roaming coyote.

So, as long as he was up, he flipped on his computer and studied opposing team rosters.

"I couldn't help myself," the Chicago White Sox's GM said. "I went over every club. I focused on players I might be able to get in July."I love the idea of Kenny looking up every player on every roster for possible trade canidates at the deadling just like some of us do. I just hope we don't need to trade for a 3rd baseman at the deadline. Crede!

So does anyone have a list of all players that will be free agents after 2005? I'd like to see what players might be available at the deadline.

Okay, I found a list of potential 2006 free agents. Of course, this article is from November 9th, 2004 so things have changed a bit since then.

2006 POTENTIAL FREE AGENTS

* List applies only to players who have a contract through 2005 (does not include 2005 free agents who sign a one-year deal). x-club option for 2006; m-mutual option for 2006; y-player option for 2006.

Yep. KW has made a few blunder moves over the years (Kotch, Ritchie, Clayton), but I give him credit for being aggressive and making some very good ones as well (Garcia, Shingo, Uribe).

If they or one of their interns do not check in regularly they are simply not doing their job. Brooks Boyer should be monitoring this site every damn day since his job is to relate to people like the one's who post here.
