FUKUOKA Infielder Tadahito Iguchi, who has reached an agreement to join the Chicago White Sox, has postponed his trip for personal reasons by one day and will leave for the United States on Thursday instead of Wednesday, a source familiar with the situation said Tuesday.

I doubt that...Harris must be out of options. I'm thinking Bobby Jenks.

Yeah I think that they are going to try to get something in exchange for Harris besides the $50,000 that someone will pay for claiming him off waivers.

Why? What do you know about Jenks?

He is a headcase, and his elbow is screwed up, but he routinely gets it up to 99 MPH as a starter, and that's not considered his best pitch. They had a special on him on ESPN a year ago.

That is not really selling me on him. Sounds like he may be more trouble than he is worth.

Is Paulino Reynoso anything special?I'd like to keep Jenks around too, if nothing else just to see what crazy stunts he has in store for us this spring. Anyone else read that SI article about him a couple of years back? Scary guy, but loads of talent. Maybe he can harness it. 6'3", 270 and throws like a freight train. Let's see what he's got.

As to him being a headcase, If I remember correctly, he had a drinking or drug problem. In the SI article he came off as a real rough-hewn character.

He (Jenks) was an unsigned FA who we picked up on a minor league deal, right? He's not going to be on the major league roster - is anyone gonna take him if we move him off the 40 man? I don't see tons of demand for the guy - otherwise we'd have had to give up more to get him.

Well, I know Ichiro, but I think he's a special case, every other Japanese player (including our other Japanese player) has had his last name used. Yao Ming doesn't really apply, since he's Chinese, not Japanese.

Yes, its my understanding that in China the first name is the surname. Ichiro said that he started putting his first name on the back in Japan. Apparently its a unique name, and he coach told him that if he put it on his jersey he would get more endorcements or something like that.

The story I heard was that there were a ton of guys named Suzuki in the Japanese leagues, and Ichiro did it to stand out.

Actually there's nothing unique about it, Ichiro probably used to be the most common name for first-born boys, since it literally means "first child". But his manager did give him the name in '94, the year after his breakout year. It was a PR stunt to try and distinguish him from all the other Suzuki outfielders, since the Orix team he played for wasn't faring so well. Supposedly he hated the idea at first, but at the end of the season "Ichiro" was a household name and commercial endorsements flooded in so it obviously stuck.

Anyways Iguichi will undoubtedly go by "Iguchi" on his jersey...

Suzuki is like Smith or Johnson in Japan, so he went by Ichiro to stand out, you're right. China and Vietnam, I'm not sure about Korea, but they say their name as "Reinsdorf Jerry," as the family supercedes the individual in their culture. When you introduce yourself, you would say "I am of the Reinsdorfs."

It was translated. This is from WhiteSox.com

Iguchi did not enter Thursday's press conference unprepared. Iguchi mentioned Nellie Fox early on in his opening statement, stating that he would like to use his speed for the fans to appreciate him much like the Hall of Famer who was part of the 1959 'Go Go White Sox' squad that lost in the World Series. Iguchi said he would do his best to help bring a World Championship to the Chicago White Sox, drawing a congratulatory smile from Williams after the response was translated.

I know how usually players want to keep their previous number when going to a new team. Timo was already wearing #7, #8 belongs to Everett , 9 is retired, 10 is Shingo, 11 is retired, 12 is A.J., 13 is Ozzie, 14 is Konerko, simple process of Elimination.
