I LOVE the "white october" idea!! that is AWESOME!

"Under the radar" is cool too.

I especially like the "what did your GM do in the offseason" taunt. I think this would tie in really well with last season's "us vs them" campaign.

There were a few callers this evening on 670 am that were renouncing thier cub fandom in favor of the south side and while I do not condone a wholesale defection of cub idiots flocking to the south side a few extra dollars ( figure at least $100 per fan on beer alone per game - especially when they say, WOW, I can TASTE my BEER?! ) certainly could not hurt the future payroll or energy at the ball park.

I recommend a thoughtful extension of the inflammatory "us vs them" campaign from last year since I live solidly in cub territory ( the NW suburbs - I cant even walk into a bar with my sox hat on without catching s*** ) and this was the only sox ad that grabbed any attention from the mindless mob. They loved it because we were the lesser team and they thought it was funny. They will still watch it this year when we are in first and they are in third behind the cards and the reds.

Some of these mindless people might still be saved. We may be able to correct the thought patterns of a few misguided fans who "like both teams!" and draw them into south side baseball.

I truly hope they continue the Us vs. Them campaign. Hell, if nothing else, you could use this:

Cheezy my ass! That's brilliant and there's nothing cheezy about it. I think I might just sit on that idea for a t-shirt until after the All-Star Break and we're 20 games ahead of the Indians for 1st place and the Twins wish they were the Indians. Then unveil it and give the team a focus for the final push much like The Super Bowl Shuffle did for the '85 Bears. It's a ballsy and risky move but if and when the mission is completed, it's all the more glorious.

Thank you voodoochile, I know the book and movie. I'm just asking if the Red Sox had a similar slogan as well.

I think it's a pretty tenuous connection, which is no good for a slogan. When it makes you go "huh?" it's not a good sign.

I also agree that the juxtaposition of KW's face and the "White October" is a little weird. It might make more sense if it were a Sox player in the white pinstripe home jersey.

WSI should make them, i would buy one or these shirts!:bandance:

I'm pretty sure that would infringe copyright laws, and the MLB isn't know for its tact in dealing with fan sites making a cent off their property.

Well, this site sells shirts with the "flying sock" on it, so I think there's some ways around that. "The hunt for White October" is, I imagine, fair game as is "under the radar". I don't think it would be too difficult for WSI to make a great and legal White Sox shirt without using the official logo.

All I ask is that the shirts be black with white lettering. I'll take 3 XL shirts please.

That flying sock though similar has never been an official logo for the team. The site owns it lock stock and barrel. It is okay for us to sell things with that logo on it but not with anything official on it, including the interlocking SOX that appears in both of the very well done Hunt for White October posters.

That's pretty much what I was figuring. Something can be put together, but it's not going to look as great as those posters just because the interlocking SOX and the players images can't be used.

Power thrills. Speed kills.

I would have to say that this is the best one so far. It just flows so well and really still applies to the team. We still have power, but it looks like we might have incredible speed. I've been trying to figure one out and i think i have one:

2005 Chicago White Sox: When power doesnt work, run like hell.

It isnt that good but i gave it a shoot

I think by now, given the relative performance of their clubs, we can discount the idea that Jerry Manuel was somehow responsible for the Sox' poor performance. "Ozzieball," both in execution and in final result, looked quite a bit like "Jerryball" last season. Success comes from the talent you put on the field. Only the most amazingly good (LaRussa?) or bad (Bevington?) managers have any appreciable impact on the standings.

Aside from the utter lack of motivational skills, I witnessed Jerry Manuel blow at least half a dozen games through just plain stupid game strategy.

"The Hunt for White October" and "Under the Radar" are the best so far! I'd buy those t-shirts in a second.

To go along with last year's "We Got Lumber", how about "We Got Speed". Not very creative but had to put it in there.

soxfan43
01-28-2005, 09:43 PM
I think I may have a solution that can solve that possible misunderstanding and incorporate the other fine idea for a slogan.

Use WU's slogan minus Kenny's face on the back of the shirt and just have "under the radar" imposed over a blank radar screen on the front.

Hey... a motif! :bandance:

someone should make those shirts. I'm way too lazy but those shirts would sell like crazy.

A lot of these ideas, while great for T-shirts, would make awesome billboards. Imagine driving down the Tri-state and looking up to see a "Hunt for White October" billboard. Or "Under the Radar". The fact that the meaning is not widely known would make them all the more interesting.

I like "Under the Radar."

I live in Maine and last year Red Sox fans used The Hunt for Red October all season. I love the poster artwork, but I don't think the slogan is a good fit.

My two cents:

US CELLULAR FIELD, the Southside Speedway

Scotty Po & the Gooch: stealing hearts one base at a time.

-Watching 2001 tank at the beginning of September: painful.

-Going into '05 with a couple of crazy Cubans who are probably in their 40s, two Japanese guys who nobody can understand, a manager who people STILL can't understand, a headcase 5th starter, a guy named "Podzilla" in right field, Crede the Question Mark and a catcher who kneed his own trainer in the groin:

Probably the best one is "Under the Radar" if things go well and "Its Kennys' fault" if things go badly, however if you believe all the preseason prognosticators we don't have a chance, so to quote Gimli son of Gloin how about ,White Sox Baseball 2005 - "Small chance of success, certainty of death, what are we waiting for?" I tend to be an optimist though.
