View Full Version : Infallible thinks over 4000 members just isn't enough

I'm a new member here just this month, it was only by sheer dumb luck that I decided one night to cruise the net in search of white sox forums. For a city the size of Chicago, not to mention those who are in other locals 4k members is not very much. The quality here is of course top notch, but it would be nice to spread the word......so how do we do it?

4k is actually alot....I think. It's not the only Sox site out there, but it's certainly the best

Believe me, we might have 4,000 members, but we have a lot of lurkers. Anyways, 4,000 is a lot.

Membership has increased 25% just since I joined. I'm member #2935 out of 4000 and I just joined in April before this season. And I lurked around and just read the site for a year or so before I finally decided to post. There are new members every day. WSI is growing quickly and getting more exposure every day - even coming from people like Dave Wills and Brooks Boyer lately.

How do you know what # member you are...???
You beat me by 2200: you are number 741.

If you click "view member's profile" or mouse over your name (or any other name for that mater), you can see the url that will take you to your profile. The last part, userid=xxxx, is your user number. FarWestChicago is #2, PHG is #3, etc. #1 is Board God, who hasn't made any posts and hasn't logged in since 2003. Many of the numbers are probably inactive, but it gives you an idea of where you are at.

How do you know what # member you are...???

I'm pretty sure if you click on your profile, the URL of the website ends in "userid=xxx" and that number is supposedly your member number. Of course, this is thrown off by administrative usernames you never see here and repeat users.

Using this method, I am #50.

I must be in the top 50 also.

ince Soxfest started the site has gained 39 members - only two of which were trolls or spammers.

The Site has nearly doubled in size since last year at the same time.

WSI is the largest independent baseball site on the net - or second largest, I forget.

3873...I'm still one of the "babies" of the family.

I did lurk for a year before joining as well though. I would go to wsi every day to read the "totally biased recap" of each game, and then browse the boards to keep up to date with the info. I wanted to join, but didn't for some reason. I finally decided to just do it one day, and here I am!

I love the entire site. While it may not be too pretty aesthetically (I used to design web sites), it is still the #1 site for White Sox news. I know, because I've looked.

Definite props to WSI and everyone who gives their time to keep it running smoothly!

It seams that this site has had a serious boom in the past year, year and a half. Why is that?

It seams that this site has had a serious boom in the past year, year and a half. Why is that?

Are you talking about a boom in the number of members? The site has had plenty of publicity in the media. From Dave Wills constantly talking about the site during his pre-game, post-game, and rain delay theater shows to Brooks Boyer talking about the site. The site has also been talked about in the Tribune, Red Eye, and the Sun-Times. We even had a Minnesota newspaper plug the site and a Kansas City writer did the same in his column. All of that publicity had led to more people finding out about the site. Also, more lurkers join as the Sox create more news, either good or bad.

That was probably on the old Rivals board.

Remember, this isn't the first incarnation of WSI and all of us had to reregister when WSI went back to being an independent website.

There were some technical problems for Cable Modem users when the independent version first got going. Took West a few days to figure it out. I remember feeling very isolated and cutoff and wondering why the sun looked so dim...

Funny you make this thread, because I was thinking there have been a ton of new members in the past few months. This is one of the biggest fan sites out there I believe.

Sox should consider having a WSI appreciation night (like they do for government employees). Even if you got half of us on a Wednesday night that is a good walk up.

Astros Connection is also huge, very close to the numbers of Bronx Bombers.

There is an independent NY baseball fansite that has forums for both teams that has a huge mebership as well.

We're third I believe. SOSH now requires an essay to get posting privileges from what I hear and i think they only had about 2000 anyways last time I checked. Our growth is outpacing Red Sox Nation I believe and by the end of this year or next we might be ahead of them. NYYFans will always be the biggest.

I'm trying to find the Mets board that was claiming two sources within the Mets organization told them that Beltran would sign with the Mets for $119 million. This claim was made before the January 8th deadline too.

Hey wait a minute! Aren't the Chubs suppose to lead attendance???

Not bad... not bad at all... especially for a second banana franchise barely supported by apathetic fans in spite of multiple championship-winning seasons, playing in a small market with a poorly located ballpark near too many fish... not bad at all.

At the moment I can't remember where I first heard of WSI. IIRC WSI had a booth at SoxFest '02, which was also my first SoxFest. Anway, I went by the booth. Met PaleHoseJorge and bought Dan's book. Good times...
