Pirates agreed to terms with RHP Kip Wells on a one-year, $3.175 million contract.
Wells receives a $600,000 raise for giving the Pirates 11 quality starts last season. He can earn a $50,000 bonus for pitching 210 innings or more.

Damn, what a pitcher's market, huh? If you're even mediocre, you're rich.

AKA KRIS BENSON! He doesn't even deserve half of what the Mets paid him but what can you say its the Mets, they don't know how to spend money wisely.

In this market, the Pirates got a steal, landing Wells for under $4 million.

I think Kip deserves this money. He is potentially their ace if he can pitch as well as he did before he was injured. Wells gave them a quality start almost every time out there.

Only thing Benson has going for him is that he has a hot wife.

Garland is getting $3.5M this year.....pretty close numbers overall.....the dollars are pretty low to me, it's the one year deal that leaves them both with options (he gets a nice bump if he proves himself....and pitt can walk away if he doesn't or wants too much)....

Pitching is the most valuable commoditity in baseball right now, you pay what it takes to keep it.

Perez will be the Pirates ace, not Kip.

Wells gave them a quality start almost every time out there.
For the record, Kip had 11 quality starts out of a total of 24 games started.

If Schoenweis can get over $2 million, Kip Wells deserves over $3 million.

I guess only one question remains: How much money will it take for the Twins to lock up Santana?

If the price of mediocrity is, in some cases, as high as $7 million dollars, then what should Cy Young winners get?

I really hope that they lose the guy one of these years.

Well, it'll either be them losing him or them keeping him but letting a bunch of other guys walk in the next couple of years. Both are good for the Sox.
